A concern about Martinez's approach

no, because i haven t seen any of those games. but my point is....how can anyone criticise it when it isnt even ready

If you watched a chef making a pie and filled it with sewage, would you wait until you tasted it before you criticised it?

An extreme analogy but you get my point.

A must win in a pre-season game, are you being serious? I went to the last pre season game last season at goodsion and we were garbage mate, pre-seasons games are not must win games.

With a manager who had been there for 10 years and was giving youth a run out, not seeing how well our players have gotten to grips with a semi-new system a mere week before we actually start playing competitive football with it....? Seems like it might be important to see if we can win using it before norwich.

Please clarify the situation: we beat Juventus on pens then fail to beat two other European elite teams....all of which equates to 'we're doomed' and 'please bring hoofmeister Moyes back'.

Who's ever said that?

It's okay to acknowledge that Martinez might not be perfect. There are flaws to every manager and every tactical approach. All people are doing is making judgements based on what we've seen so far. Which isn't a lot but still, surely it's natural to do this?

And the results so far are irrelevant as far as i'm concerned.

I wouldn't say it's a must win.

It's important that we perform well though and look sharp for the beginning of the season.

A pre season friendly ...a must win game????

...this place is going to get nasty, or at least tediously boring, when we lose a couple of games.

Most of us will just log off in the end.

I can certainly see that.

A lot of people would flip over any people questioning Moyes at any point in his eleven years, when I always thought it was fair game once we knew what we were getting and what he was about.

But this, this is ridiculous. I am almost certain Martinez will be given at least a couple of seasons, barring a disaster which I cannot see happening. It would better to focus a bit more on the positive side than all this prediction of doom and gloom and this is what happened before so this is what is going to happen now nonsense....

No one has predicted 'doom and gloom' though. I wish people would actually read what others say before jumping to conclusions and trying to twist things into something they're not.

Seeing as how you completely ignored the point I made and just made some generic comment without addressing anything I will ask you this, if we are still obviously struggling to get to grip with this passing systems then will you not say that the signs have been there in pre-season?

Perhaps must win is a bit too far, but we have to show that we can cope with this system.

Very true....I think this ruins most football discussions. I didn't mean to sound like anybody who is criticising Martinez in any way is doing this...but that there are some making statements of doom and gloom.

I focused on that part because it summed up some of the over the top negativity, pointless analysis and criticism we are seeing before a competitive ball is kicked.

I would say the signs of a team struggling with new systems with a new manager will always be there in pre season, and will most likely be there during the first season also.

I would then go on to not bother criticising it in anyway and have some patience, and look back at the end.

I don't think the point you were making was too clear really. Sounded like you were starting with a negative but about to make a positive comment....but went on to make an even more negative comment calling the Betis game must win. Not a dig...just how it comes across.

...plus much of what im saying above is in general...not necessarily aimed at you! :)

if martinez does not start with the team/tactics (depending on baines, felli) we had last year against norwich then the bloke must be mad.

ok he's got his style and has tried it in the friendlies to get the players "used to" his main aim but as i said he must be bonkers to try it straight away in the league after only 6 weeks with the players and use his system as a back up or if we are winning then try it.

but as the season goes on then it will slowly change.

if he does it straight away from the off then i'm worried.

We lost away at Norwich last year. Looking at his record it seems that he's good at getting wins at places like Reading, Southampton and West Brom, where we struggled last season. I think that he might start out 'half adventurous'. If it works better than expected he can go the whole way and if we have problems he can revert back to the default.

Didn't we win that 4-1 against AEK Athens? Certainly weren't garbage that night. Did you mean the game in Malaga the weekend after that we lost?
