A concern about Martinez's approach

Mystified where these 'concerns' are coming from. Four goals conceded in three games against European power house teams. Last pre-season we were losing to two bob teams. Lol!

It's unreal to expect Martinez to have spent the entire pre-season looking at a different approach to Moyes' and then revert back to what Moyes was doing for the opening game of the season. Not happening mate. How confused would the players be with that?!!

We may have just offered the job to Neville if the fans expect Moyes football as Neville would copy it but he would be a worse version of Moyes.

I have a strong suspicion there's 'fans' who want to see Everton beaten a lot this season to prove their position on Martinez....how horrible must that feel? Wanting your own team beaten? Some strange people knocking about.

I think he meant in terms of formation, mate. As in we'll probably play 4-2-3-1. I think it's quite clear the new style will be very much present at Norwich.

Perhaps some people can see things more clearly than you can? :P

good point mate and I have mentioned this in a previous thread. Last season we played some great football and what let us down was the games we drew. But what we have to hope for is something similar than last season but a more positive approach when in front and not sitting back or looking so rigid in the last 5 minutes or so and costing us points. This season we may end up winning 6 of those draws and losing 6 or 7 ( was it 13 draws last season? ). Its a case of seeing can we keep the positives of last season ( consistent, hard to beat ) but expand on the negatives ( not being able to close games out, lack of really going fir the jugular to finish teams off )

Precisely, those draws cost us dearly and whilst I do have my concerns about preseason and the fact we have only won 2/6 games without a clean sheet, Betis is the real test for Martinez and is a must win as they are not of the quality of Madrid or Valencia (though I think both of those games were tactical mistakes on his part).

Spot on, we haven't actually played a real game so far, pre season is about getting up to fitness, playing patterns in terms of what works for our squad and what doesn't, they are not about just results.
Besides after giving Moyes a honeymoon period that lasted a decade i think for some to worry about Martinez after nothing more than a few preseason games is lame

A must win in a pre-season game, are you being serious? I went to the last pre season game last season at goodsion and we were garbage mate, pre-seasons games are not must win games.

Alright foz?

Yeah I sort of agree with you, but I'm still none the wiser on what formation we'll play and who will play against Norwich.

Still not a big fan of 3 at the back.

We'll probably know who's starting against Norwich as I'm guessing the Betis game will tell us who.

hello mate

i agree

not liking the 3 at the back yet and the betis game will be the give away i think.

about as confused as against Valencia mate imo he will start with moyes's formation as they all know it (drummed into the club for 11 years) rather than his system that has had 6 weeks.

but he will be wanting his system on the field as soon as though too.
