A concern about Martinez's approach

People have to bear in mind that we as a club can't afford to have a revolving door at the manager's office. So expect Roberto to at the very least be given a season unless of course we can't buy a win.

But yeeah as I've said previously on this thread, a good performance on Sunday would be very reassuring with regards to Norwich away.

I hope you're right mate. I'm looking forward to seeing football being battled on the football pitch and not in the newspapers, but if I had to review our transfer activity this summer then I don't think we have been very ambitious, and replacing Fellaini, and possibly even Baines, is going to have a massive effect on the team. Making the wrong choices has the potential to set us back years.

We can't be ambitious with our spending, yes we could sign some nobody from a different country, however Martinez felt he needed to get a few bodies in who he has worked with before. I have no problem with that.

Nobody is irreplaceable, if we did have to sell either of them or both of them or whatever we'd get a decent fee back in return.
That could buy 3 or 4 new players if possible, I'd rather keep them both and work from there, but I don't know what the board would do in regards to Baines for example, as I think they'd react differently because it's Baines.

can we sell someone to put one in the chairman's office (y)

I've got bad news for those saying Martinez will get 10 games or hoping he will be sacked this season. He won't be. He's here for the long haul so it's probably time to get used to it.

Why are we arguing about our manager when we should be excited, to the posters who are concerned about Martinez, how are you going to react if we lose our first game against Norwich.

if martinez does not start with the team/tactics (depending on baines, felli) we had last year against norwich then the bloke must be mad.

ok he's got his style and has tried it in the friendlies to get the players "used to" his main aim but as i said he must be bonkers to try it straight away in the league after only 6 weeks with the players and use his system as a back up or if we are winning then try it.

but as the season goes on then it will slowly change.

if he does it straight away from the off then i'm worried.

Depends on how we play. To be honest i'm happy with most of what Martinez has done and he says all of the right things, I'm just not sure he's got his priorities right in terms of how he's preparing the team for the season. Having said that, he certainly won't want to lose vs Norwich and i think he's got good tactical awareness, so we shall see.

Fair enough, the club will handle the echo in case it gets to be a problem and will manage fan expectations via okeefe but the national media won,t pander to the club. The game is a global 24/7 fishbowl EVERYTHING is looked at in terms of fine details and the big picture.

It,s up to Bob to get off to a flyer.

agreed regarding its up to RM to get off to a flyer and we have a reasonable chance of doing that given not too bad a run of fixtures. The Echo doesn't even register on what is fed to Evertonians, its a paper for the ****e and always has been. Dont mind O'Keefe, I honestly believe the likes of u and me ( average match going fan ) has just as much info of the goings on at the club than he does. Lets hope he gets off to a flyer anyway John as he's a young man coming to a massive club with a massive history.

I think a lot of people are starting to kid themselves over what attractive football actually is. Last season we played far more attractive football than the tippy tappy play-it-around-the-defense football Wigan did and far more attractive football than we will be playing this year when we start to play exactly like the RS and banging on about possession and passes.

Fun fact: Last season we played more passes in the opponants half than any other team in the league.

Alright foz?

Yeah I sort of agree with you, but I'm still none the wiser on what formation we'll play and who will play against Norwich.

Still not a big fan of 3 at the back.

We'll probably know who's starting against Norwich as I'm guessing the Betis game will tell us who.

That doesn't surprise me actually. If only we had a decent striker last year!

good point mate and I have mentioned this in a previous thread. Last season we played some great football and what let us down was the games we drew. But what we have to hope for is something similar than last season but a more positive approach when in front and not sitting back or looking so rigid in the last 5 minutes or so and costing us points. This season we may end up winning 6 of those draws and losing 6 or 7 ( was it 13 draws last season? ). Its a case of seeing can we keep the positives of last season ( consistent, hard to beat ) but expand on the negatives ( not being able to close games out, lack of really going fir the jugular to finish teams off )

It's unreal to expect Martinez to have spent the entire pre-season looking at a different approach to Moyes' and then revert back to what Moyes was doing for the opening game of the season. Not happening mate. How confused would the players be with that?!!
