A concern about Martinez's approach

I'm never sure if you are a forum character of actually fully believe what you post.

Moyes was an excellent Everton manager and continually got us to very high league positions.

He is now the manager of Manchester United. They picked him above every other manager in world football because of the job he did here.

I can understand you might not have enjoyed large periods of the football he played when he was in charge. Fair enough.

However when you start lumping him in with failed managers it is just weird. He was by no means a long ball manager or in any way "old school". We regularly got 60 odd points in the league which was a feet unmatched by any other club on a similar budget. Our style evolved as he put together a squad and played some excellent football when he assembled it.

Martinez may well do well with us but the facts are clear, he very rarely broke the 40 point barrier and always let in at least 60 goals. It is a huge step up for him.

You have an opinion about Moyes based on league position - not winning the league nor even regular CL qualification and quite simply for many fans there's a lot more to it than that.

The reasons have been outlined a thousand times, I presume you know them and for whatever reason choose to ignore them despite being absolute documented, historical, cast iron facts.

It's very hard to know what further can be said if someone wants to ignore the complete picture.

The Jesuits used to say "give me the boy and I will give you the man" I can only conclude there's a bit of that with a generation knowing only Walter and Davey.

Me and others have seen us win stuff playing fabulous football so we're not afflicted.

Didn't even come close to implying that did i.

He has no obsession with Wigan players. You call Kone crap, he scored more goals than either of our strikers. Robles is a backup keeper who cost half a million. Alcaraz a back up centre half who was a free transfer, and is not crap at all.

If he isn't obsessed with Wigan players then he really aught to stop buying them because we have enough as it is.

I agree, but we need to get a balance, otherwise we'll be even more easily snuffed out by the better teams. Wigan conceded a lot of goals because of individual errors last season and Martinez clearly isn't responsible for all of those, but defenders are more likely to make mistakes if they're ****ing about with the ball around the penalty area.

One of my concerns before Martinez was appointed was that Wigan didn't get going until March each season and then they'd go to places like Liverpool, Tottenham and Arsenal and win. It seemed that they had the ability but that they were too laid back. With Moyes gone players like Jagielka, Distin and Gibson could take their foot off the gas and start performing sloppily. I've not seen too much evidence of that so far in pre-season though. The high line against Madrid and Heitinga sweeping in front of the back four were experiments that went wrong but other than that we've kept a good line, we haven't been caught in possession around our own penalty area and the only mislaid pass that I can think of was Jagielka's against Austria Vienna.

Wondering if we may have the answer to our lack of goals with this kid Long ? Scored again against Real Bêtise B today
In a 1 1 draw

I think we just need to 'click'. Kone and Deulofeu are brand new. Jelavic, Mirallas and Naismith have all arrived at the club in the last 18 months. And Anichebe has never had a decent run in the side.

Long is looking good but he's probably some way away from being ready for the first team yet.

He has sunk you with his response to be honest. I edit that lot above and have another crack.

Your getting boring now mate, he bought two Wigan players, the third was a Athletico player. We have been linked to Wigan players because it is his old club, just like Moyes is being to players he knows.

It's all paper talk, nothing more.

He will be back in more for he has the dough, you can take that to the bank.

Which is exactly what Martinez Wigan side did at Goodison season before last when I rated them one of the worst sides, with the most ridiculous tactics, that I'd seen at our spot.

I know he made massive forward bounds with them over the following 18 months which culminated in a glorious relegation.

I think a lot of the comments about his supposed style are absolute ****e tbh & I too can't wait to read some of the excuses chucked out in the coming months by those who are labelling him as the second coming on here
What's the answer then mate ?
