Jags is a coward for that. Poor leadership.
He was, presumably, referring to the fact we had a cautious divvy in the dugout who didn't have the brass balls to go on the offensive in a big game.
I don't think there's a single player capable of being a great captain in the squad unfortunately.Exactly. RM's all over the situation though telling the press that it didn't matter he missed one; he's still our #1 penalty taker and that he wont be put off by the miss. I do think he should be taking that armband off Jagielka now. What a waste of a position of authority that feller is. I'd give it to Mori.
It's a good point, tbf.
All I would say in response is that, unlike other areas of the pitch, we have largely Moyes' old defensive unit (and defence I would say is where we need leadership from), barring Distin, still here. The one player he has bought that's a starter at the back is Funes Mori. Now he seems to have a good temperament - a competitive one. I wonder what would happen if he got the armband btw? I bet he'd lead that back four with greater distinction than the church mouse Jagielka.
Unless he goes to Scotland he wont win an egg cup. There's not a winning mentality there. He likes order and discipline, not flair.Moyes could have been here 11 more years and he would still be empty handed.
A summary from the prosecution:
Very good coach, terrible manager, i.e. his ideas on how the game should be played will work well on the training ground but he can't be trusted to make the right decisions during the game. In addition our team spirit is a shambles as that's down to him. There is no backbone.
Most of all though there is no defending his indefensible record in the Premier League.
Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, the evidence is overwhelming. You should find the defendant guilty as charged.
They are pretty good, but they are Moyes players: quiet people who dont rock the boat and trouble themselves with organisation - just leave it to others on the sidelines and take zero responsibility. The defence is a puzzle, if you take the keeper out of it no one has a back four in the league that I'd prefer to ours. It's not working though. In fairness that's not all coaching but it has to play a large part.
Mori is a player I like a lot but it would be a bold move to make him captain imho

Remember at the cup SF and he left Drenthe out for off field reasons? The one player that could have turned the Kopites on their heels when we still led at 1-0 and he wasn't there. That stunt summed him up: a perennial nearly man.

Mori is different, imo. You can see that feller takes matters into his own hands a lot more than the other defenders he walked into the club to fit in alongside.
First act Martinez should have done after the first season when his stock was sky high: take Jagielka to one side and tell him he can be club captain but not team captain. Job done.
Haha the man turned up to travel bevied, you're getting desperate now
