But more and more it's the downballot stuff that matters as well
That's all decided in the primary around here. I play defense by voting for moderate Republicans, and they lose. The general is a sham election with preordained outcomes, other than ballot initiatives and amendments. Big surprises on the latter items prove it's free and fair, but they're the only reason to turn up.
Agreed. Every Biden speech I've ever seen results in me thanking the heavens in relief every time he strings two sentences together correctly. I'm on edge the whole time.
Granted the other guy can't string more than 5 words together that make sense, but that's another point altogether
He has always been able to read pre-prepped stuff, which is why he can still get through a State of the Union. Look up his rant at South Africa in a hearing on apartheid, if you want to see what he once was on that front.
Off-the-cuff is another matter. I think it always served him well in one-on-one and small group campaign stuff, where being too smooth comes off as fake, but these days hostile media will hammer a president the moment they aren't smooth as glass in front of a camera.
