The Dem bench is pretty weak. Who would they 'ready' for the candidacy? At one time I thought Newsom was good shout, at this point his star has massively waned. Kamala would be a worse choice than Biden. That leaves the likes of Buttigieg. Buttigieg is probably the best of a bad bunch of options.

That's all decided in the primary around here. I play defense by voting for moderate Republicans, and they lose. The general is a sham election with preordained outcomes, other than ballot initiatives and amendments. Big surprises on the latter items prove it's free and fair, but they're the only reason to turn up.
He has always been able to read pre-prepped stuff, which is why he can still get through a State of the Union. Look up his rant at South Africa in a hearing on apartheid, if you want to see what he once was on that front.
Off-the-cuff is another matter. I think it always served him well in one-on-one and small group campaign stuff, where being too smooth comes off as fake, but these days hostile media will hammer a president the moment they aren't smooth as glass in front of a camera.

Newsom is awful. Buttigieg, Whitmer, or even Klobuchar I think could’ve succeeded. No candidate is perfect but they’re solid enough to have gotten it done had they been backed early. Of course there are political reasons they were not.

The Dems should have just let them fight it out in a good ole fashioned hard fought primary campaign. This option is no longer available. Of course this would have meant Biden standing aside. We're at the point where if Biden now steps aside it's gonna harken back to the old smoke filled rooms at the Dem convention to decide the nominee. Am I correct in this, or does the nomination automatically go to Kamala?

Oh, and I think we can safely predict the Libertarian Party will almost certainly receive less votes than usual at a GE. Ross Ulbricht is a cause celebre amongst libertarians. Trump has just taken a substantial chunk of the libertarian vote.
