Let’s be brutally frank here, the threat posed by Putin’s Russia to Europe and the world is not just a distant concern - it’s a stark reality that impacts us all. Dismissing the Russia-Ukraine war as irrelevant is a dangerous oversimplification. This isn’t just about Ukraine, it’s about the fundamental principles of sovereignty and democracy that underlie global stability.

Putin's regime is actively undermining democratic institutions worldwide, including in the US, where attempts to influence our elections and support divisive figures like Trump are ongoing. This isn’t a fringe issue, it’s a calculated strategy aimed at eroding trust in our democratic processes.

As for Ukraine’s government, while it’s not without flaws (no government is) your thinking overlooks the existential threat posed by Russian aggression. Yes, Ukraine has its challenges, but supporting it is about standing against a tyrant w ho seeks to expand his colonial empire, not about blindly endorsing every aspect of its governance. The choices we make today will resonate for generations. If we fail to stand with those fighting against oppression, we risk emboldening authoritarianism, not just in Europe but right here at home. And let us be clear that Putin has carefully nurtured and brought together a cabal of dictators who he wants to provide a new world order of fascist minded despots.

It should be clear to anyone who has even just a passing interest in world matters that our security and values are intertwined. Dismissing Ukraine's struggle means ignoring the broader implications for democracy everywhere. It’s well beyond time to recognise the gravity of the situation and understand that defending Ukraine is about defending ourselves and the principles we claim to uphold.
Only 8% of the world live in "full democracies". Around 37% of the world lives under authoritarian rule and as much as 72% of the world lives in autocracies. The world isn't being more authoritarian because of Putin all of a sudden.

Russian aggression isn't anything new. Russia invaded and slaughtered people in Chechnya in the 90s, the worst human atrocity since the Holocaust. Russia also invaded Georgia in 2008. Like literally this is nothing new and of course, there was no outrage previously to this scale.

I hate Russia almost as much as the next guy, I think that country represents the evil in the end times. I also think our allies should be protected. I just don't think Ukraine deserves to be protected ahead of looking after our own citizens.

I think you are missing the point, massively

Apart from the fact that Jesusasaurus's response is full of nonsense (e.g., Zelensky did not, in fact, invite a Nazi to Canadian Parliament), I'm more fascinated that he has used the phrase "sucking off" to refer to the signature in my post, claiming--weirdly--I am "sucking Ukraine off" and he did this twice. It is a really weird thing to say. And in fact, my signature says nothing of the sort.
Does this happen to be you by any chance? Was just wondering.

Erm, hang on a second...
