Current Affairs 2024 POTUS race

Again, Biden has one slip up - end of the Dems, Trumps speaks horrors on a near daily basis and he is close to winning.

It does not make sense -why do people willingly excuse trumps huge rap sheet but jump onto any minor gaffe from a Dem?
They agree with trump so excuse anything he says.

In no way should the POTUS be referring to a good portion of the population as garbage, majorly stupid move that actually could cost Harris greatly.

Obama ballooned the debt with his bailout immediately upon taking office - something most economists said had to happen lest the US economy go into a depression.

Also - bizarrely you leave Trump's term out of these numbers

9/30/09 - $11.9 trillion
9/30/17 - $20.2 trillion
9/30/21 - $28.4 trillion

So Obama raised it roughly $1 trillion per year

Trump raised it $2 trillion per year

Biden has raised the debt certainly.

As someone on the more conservative fiscal side of things, absolutely we must get this under control - it cannot continue like this

But the GOP wants to cut taxes for the richest people in our country, and the Democrats want these billionaires to pay their fair share.

It's simple math
He's team Putin, living in Russia and all that. Good to see him back to comment on the US GE though.

Not sure if either side wants to debate any real topics mate this election. Don't think either side has a clue what to do about the economy or national debt including the insane levels of federal spending.

The fundamental is that inequality is rising, but they are both too tied in to the super rich that they won't countenance the tax measures required to resolve it.

It always makes me laugh when Trump fans talk about the deficit, and you think we're they asleep during his huge fiscal spend!

In part it could be getting used as a tactic to try to ensure he maximises his own voter turnout mate, or to try convince Harris supporters there's no need to turn out.

Or it could just be Tinfoiltrump at it again.

Aye maybe, but it surely just demoralizes people, and honestly must just push independents away.

Like Trump is not a particularly rational actor. But it seems odd to me. He seemed v relaxed on Rogan.

Mate having been around people with dementia - it's very clear he's suffering from it, just the sheer number now of incidents has become alarming.

Given also that you can guarantee he's getting medicated to high heaven before any public appearance or speech etc then I wonder just how bad things actually are away from the cameras on a day to day basis.

Oh I think trump is suffering cognitive decline btw as well - at that she most people will be. But Bidens is stark.
Could be dererium as easily as dementia. I don't think he's as bad as lot of people make out, but he's clearly not right, and should've always been intending to serve one term.

Trump's a businessman first and foremost mate, in a controlled environment he comes across massively different then when he's free forming it.

Was talking about it the other day with a student who'd watched the Rogan thing (I haven't btw) and discussing this very thing.

You stick a live audience in front of him - completely different version you'll see, same as if he's going off script.

Theres definitely a degree of paranoia about him, given how he's been gone after since leaving office I could understand that, but in truth I think that's always been part of his character

He's actually a very bad public speaker compared to a natural one, apparently it comes across well to lots though, but certainly doesn't come across presidential at all (Harris doesn't either imo)

Disliked Reagan a lot, but he had genuine charisma, Kennedy was unarguably the single most charismatic politician in the TV era, not sure where it all went in politics over there as none of the current lot seems particularly personable

So what do we look out for on Election night? IiRC North Carolina is one of the states that gets called pretty quickly. If Harris wins that state, it's curtains for Trump. If Trump gets a big win ( somewhere around his 2016 win of about 3.5%) then it looks good for Trump.
It might be different this year.

Under a new law, in-person early voting results may be reported later than usual on election night. This, in turn, may cause Election Day results to be reported later as well. Previously, county boards of elections could tabulate early voting results before the close of polls, then report those results almost immediately at 7:30 p.m. on election night. Under changes made in Section 29 of N.C. Session Law 2023-140, county boards must wait until 7:30 p.m. to “close the polls” on early voting tabulators and begin the process of counting and reporting results of ballots cast during the early voting period. This process will take an estimated 30 to 60 minutes — and possibly longer in some counties — before unofficial early voting results can be posted publicly on the Dashboard. Unlike early voting results, absentee ballots received before Election Day can be tabulated before the polls close under state law. Those absentee results will likely be the first to appear publicly for any given county when the polls close. Under state law, absentee ballots returned on Election Day are added to the vote totals during the 10-day canvass period. For more information, see Election Night Reporting Timeline.

Many of the regular American posters on here have spent countless pages on several threads in this forum trying to explain to you just how it's gone in politics over here and why.

As well as numerous books and articles you can read on why we are here right now
