Buttigieg is one I think would’ve had little problem winning if he would’ve been positioned early on. Name recognition, generally liked, not 85 years old, and presents very articulately. I understand it’s late, but Biden is sliding further and further. I assume there are some plays to run next year that they think will turn it around. It’s just stupid it’s gotten to this point.
Major problems with people of color. Which matters in purple states.

Who cares about The South. They are voting for MAGA regardless

Are there other Dems who could perform very well as President? Yes.

But they have to get Elected. And really, I don't see a Dem besides Biden that can beat Trump. And that's the name of the game. It's a risk - if for some reason that Trump isn't the GOP nominee, then Biden probably loses against Nikki Haley - but with the Senate map very fragile for the Dems, they must hold the Presidency against our worst fears - and that's Trump.

So it has to be Biden.
I think only Michelle Obama beats Trump if Biden drops out.

The major problem, ultimately, is Biden's choice of running mate. I mean why select Kamala Harris and then have her hide in the shadows - she's not viewed as anywhere near ready to take over.

The Democrats should have viewed Biden as a stopgap option like an NFL team that needed a veteran QB to right the ship for a couple years and groom the young QB to take over. That hasn't happened.

And because of that, we risk losing the Super Bowl to Jamarcus Russell

“Nationalism and Socialism had to be redefined and they had to be blended into one strong new idea to carry new strength which would make Germany great again.” adolf hitler, 1934.

"Last April, perhaps in a surge of Czech nationalism, Ivana Trump told her lawyer Michael Kennedy that from time to time her husband reads a book of Hitler’s collected speeches, My New Order, which he keeps in a cabinet by his bed. Kennedy now guards a copy of My New Order in a closet at his office, as if it were a grenade. Hitler’s speeches, from his earliest days up through the Phony War of 1939, reveal his extraordinary ability as a master propagandist.

“Did your cousin John give you the Hitler speeches?” I asked Trump.

Trump hesitated. “Who told you that?”

“I don’t remember,” I said.

“Actually, it was my friend Marty Davis from Paramount who gave me a copy of Mein Kampf, and he’s a Jew.” (“I did give him a book about Hitler,” Marty Davis said. “But it was My New Order, Hitler’s speeches, not Mein Kampf. I thought he would find it interesting. I am his friend, but I’m not Jewish.”)

Later, Trump returned to this subject. “If I had these speeches, and I am not saying that I do, I would never read them.”

Don't have to look very far with this maniac to see some rather tawdry behaviours.

I'm not sure I agree it's "truth" that Biden is past it.

However, that's the perception.

And unfortunately, in our politics, perception is reality

Except for MAGA. There is no reality among them
If you watch his interviews or speeches uninterrupted and not just the sound bites, it’s pretty clear to me his time is done. His mind wanders and he can’t represent in the same way he used to. That, and it’s just time for a new generation of leadership in this country.

He was never a good speaker, which has been exacerbated by his age.

I agree we need someone younger. The other side though has no qualms electing someone with half of Biden's remaining brain cells that's essentially the same age

It's quite depressing.

Yes, but there is a difference between being a poor speaker and mental lapses/issues with focus. Weve had poor speakers as presidents in the past but you didn’t usually have to question their overall mental cognition.

My main point was in line with your last statement through. It certainly is a depressing situation. Maybe in 4 years things start to get a little brighter.
