Current Affairs 2024 POTUS race

I doubt he'd ever go before the SC. They'd be ruling on Colorados decision, not trumps actions.
The time frame of this could be interesting. Jan 4th seems to be the day they'll make the final state decission.
After that I presume SCOTUS has till March to hear appeals. Or could they try and push it past the primary?
Do other states follow suit?
what a mad country!

They’d have to assess whether the amendment applies though, it’s the sole reason he has been banned. That’s impossible to do without examining what he did.

Never mind who runs or wins, but it seems the slow politicisation of the courts,DA’s etc is not a good look for the USA…..

there's no slow politicisation, this is how the system works. Has been for ages.
It's political. Each POTUS races to stack the courts with their (often lifetime) appointments.

The biggest culprits of this are the republicans who manipulated hearings to seat SCOTUS judges.
The Democrats could have stacked the court in response but haven't gone down that path and as a result, abortion is no longer a right in this country.

Opening a whole other can of worms there tho.

Also looks like your bet Haley is positioning herself to be trumps VP pick.

If January 6th was not an insurrection Pete perhaps you would care to define what one is?

I’m not arguing whether the 6th was an insurrection or not. Also I’m not pushing for Trump. It just appears to me that the judges on these various courts are political appointees and appear, and I may be wrong, to vote along political lines. The SC is the same except it has a Rep majority.…..

The Colorado court were all voted in by Democrats and yet it was a split decision (4-3).

So yes, in this particular case to say they voted along political lines is demonstrably untrue. They seemed to all agree that it was an insurrection but disagree about whether Trump was an “officer of the US” or whether due process had been followed.

I don’t necessarily disagree if you are trying to make a wider point.

This is not the most likely scenario, but I can see how it looks like this.

It's only been a recent (relatively) phenomenon that if a court decision goes against you, the argument of the person who lost is that it's political

It's a furthering of the alternative realities at play.

I saw a video from an Iowa voter that was essentially saying "they all are coming after Trump with these cases, why aren't 'they' going after Biden".

It's lost on these people that perhaps "they" go after Trump because he's guilty of crimes. That doesn't matter any more

It was purely the wider point. I don’t want to see either Biden nor Trump get back in. Haley will become the first female POTUS in my opinion……just my opinion mind…..

I don't keep up much with politics (the real kind) but this point baffles me: how some who defend Trump as innocent of baseless accusations (patently incorrect) want to impeach Biden of crimes his son has committed (not to mention his son appears likely to be punished for some of these crimes). Truly don't understand either the process nor the frame of mind, it's tribalism at its worst.
