I'm not sure he even knows now, I know I don't. They have to be in so many different pockets on the way up, who knows which one they finally end up in.
It was MBNA (now part of Bank of America) for a good long while. They hired Hunter Biden out of law school, were one of the big employers in the state and probably were well up there on Joe's campaign finance speed dial. The lion's share of Joe's corporate campaign finance continues to come from the banking sector and Wall Street, though his palm has been greased across industries the way any general election presidential candidate's would these days.

This is preferable to being the pawn of a foreign power, of course. Trump's relationship with Russian money in his personal finances by way of Deutsche was well-documented during the 2016 campaign.

Thank god for this post. I honestly thought we were headed toward "The Jews" yet again.

as a non American i find it truly amazing that the democrats cant find a candidate who's not senile to replace genocide joe

There are plenty of better options. Seems like they all are just waiting for the next cycle in the hopes of avoiding the Trump circus. But for the good of the country, it’d be nice if someone would just speak truth and admit Biden is past it/step up to help. We need stability now, and neither of the current options will provide any semblance of that.

Are there other Dems who could perform very well as President? Yes.

But they have to get Elected. And really, I don't see a Dem besides Biden that can beat Trump. And that's the name of the game. It's a risk - if for some reason that Trump isn't the GOP nominee, then Biden probably loses against Nikki Haley - but with the Senate map very fragile for the Dems, they must hold the Presidency against our worst fears - and that's Trump.

So it has to be Biden.

And I noticed there's more snow on my avatar than there really is today in Denver, Co.

Sigh.

What do you base this on? I see more and more people saying they want a common sense option which neither of these 2 are. Think you might be underestimating how big that group is. Trump voters are voting trump either way, but I see a Biden nomination making the decision harder than it needs to be for those who aren’t blindly loyal to him.

I base this on the need we would have to identify, agree upon and build up another Dem in the next 11 months to Presidential contender status - and there isn't one with whom that can all be done. There are terrific people I'd be happy to vote for - Kamala Harris & Pete Buttigieg are two off the top of my head. But neither can win the general election against Trump based on their current profiles - and changing that perception between now and October 1 is not an easy nor assurable proposition.

You're right that Biden makes that decision harder than it needs to be, but it's still easier than any other Dem nominee would be.

To hear the counter - name a Dem who has the profile now that could be built up and could have a better chance of winning in November. Seriously, I'd like to read a cogent argument in support of someone else. But you can't just say "another Dem" - you need to identify someone and describe how it could happen.

We're on the same side in this, I believe - but see different paths to achieving the goal. Thx

Anyone else is sledding uphill on three dimensions: name recognition, vetting and figuring out how to win the verbal clashes with Trump.

I would like to see Buttigieg as the nominee, as his record is one of strong competence, but I don't know that he would win. Lord only knows what might come out about any of the prospective candidates who haven't been through presidential-level media vetting before.

Sitting presidents have a way of sucking the media oxygen out of the room for their party's bench. If Biden had decided not to run at the beginning of the year, there would have been plenty of time for someone to emerge as a candidate who can go toe-to-toe with Trump, and win in November. At this stage of the game, it's chancy. Someone who proves not to have that skill in spades could end up as the nominee, and lose.

Nominating not-Biden is a gamble. Different people may have different opinions about how vulnerable Biden is, and therefore whether the gamble is worth the risk.

Buttigieg is one I think would’ve had little problem winning if he would’ve been positioned early on. Name recognition, generally liked, not 85 years old, and presents very articulately. I understand it’s late, but Biden is sliding further and further. I assume there are some plays to run next year that they think will turn it around. It’s just stupid it’s gotten to this point.

The timing is the biggest factor imo, but that’s another failing of the party as a whole. Just replied to someone else, but Buttigieg I think could’ve done it given more of a timeline to be positioned. Kamala, I don’t understand. What about her do you like? Seems like even those who work closely with her aren’t big fans.

For other options…I think Whitmer could’ve done it, and I think Klobuchar probably could’ve as well.

Buttigieg will have problems in the Southern states, and the vote totals in the last primary reflect that. I think he has a pathway to 270, but it's narrow and runs through holding those working-class voters in the Midwest and Northeast that voted for Biden last time.

I think Klobuchar's staff issues would prove problematic, as they would for Harris. Whitmer would have more of a shot, assuming there aren't skeletons in her closet.

Which southern states would you be concerned about? I’ll concede that Georgia would’ve been a stretch to hold again but the rest of that region is pretty red regardless.

Midwest I’d be less worried about tbh, and maybe he flips Indiana? It’s a stretch I know.

Agree on the other points.

I'm not sure I agree it's "truth" that Biden is past it.

However, that's the perception.

And unfortunately, in our politics, perception is reality

Except for MAGA. There is no reality among them

His main problem is with people of color. Justified or not
