Glad to hear Biden finally stepped aside for this election. Came WAY later than it should have but at least it happened. My only thought now is if would even be worth trying to find someone other than Kamala to run. I don't think there's enough time personally but I also think better candidates exist. Here's to hoping.

The experts: "Dave, you're mad. There's no mechanism that exists to stop Biden as the candidate now".

Me 4 weeks ago: "Then they'll have to force him to resign and put another candidate up".

The experts: "No, Dave, it's not possible as the primaries cant be re-run / there's no time to run a new candidate race"

None of this is true.
No one for one second thought biden wouldn’t be allowed to voluntarily drop out. Every argument was about the logistics of someone challenging biden.
But have fun on your victory lap.

I don’t know much about him politically but Kelly seems to tick a lot of boxes for a VP in this election. Former Navy, former Astronaut, Senator in a swing state and (if he chooses) can use the experience he had with his wife, Gabby Giffords, to try and push the unity message and maybe soften the Reps rhetoric. I’m sure it’s something he would actually believe in too given what Giffords and their family went through.

Also iirc a dem gov who can appoint another dem to fill his Senate spot whilst a new election is called.

He also is unlikely to run on his own whilst Shapiro may figure that he is best sitting this round out and to try for the presidency himself in 2028 if Kamala fails. Although quite what a 2028 campaign will look like after another Trump presidency is anyones guess.

The best thing that can happen for the Democrats is her getting out of the way for someone like Buttigieg who is always on message without flaw. She is an 'L' that hasn't happened yet, and will cheerfully ride the party right down to Satan if given the chance.

Like any candidate she has some weaknesses but also some strengths. More prosaically we only have ~ 100 days and she at least has a campaign org already set up and the only one who can use the Biden/Harris campaign contributions.
