Eurosport 10/02/2018 Everton 3 (Sigurdsson 46' Niasse 51' Davies 75') Crystal Palace 1 (Milivojevic 83' pen.)

But the breakthrough didn’t come until 45 seconds into the second period when Sigurdsson’s deflected shot found its way into the bottom corner past Palace keeper Wayne Hennessey. And only five minutes later the Toffees doubled their advantage when Niasse was left unmarked to convert Cuco Martina’s cross from the left. Everton’s convincing display was crowned with a third goal with the tireless Davies netting from Sigurdsson’s excellent cut-back.

MAN OF THE MATCH Cuco Martina (Everton):
Sigurdsson was particularly impressive - grabbing his sixth goal of the season and registering an assist - but Martina's thrilling performance shouldn't go unnoticed. For the second game running the emergency left-back chipped in with an assist and not only did he provide a threat going forward but the free transfer also played with a cool head in defence.

never understood why we signed him, but then I don’t understand anything we do anymore

We had 2 senior full backs going into the 17/18 season and Kenny. Both got injured fairly early on. It made sense to bring in cover and Martina actually at least applied what limited talent he had playing out of position at left back which is more than can be said about most players that season.

I think you and I are the only 2 people in the "Martina wasnt that bad" camp.

It’s overblown to legendary proportions yeah. People need someone to blame for that season so I’ll gladly let that be Cuco.
He's the only player I have ever seen who has turned his back on the ball and an opposition player and ran back towards his own goal. And I've seen him do it several times. Most bizarre thing I have seen on a football pitch. He's supposed to be a defender ffs. He's like that lad who signed for Southampton that pretended he was George Weah's long lost son or whatever, except we kept him for years.

i didnt think he did too bad considering he was playing out of position

there were bigger problems that season
Has he ever been used in a right back position at Everton, all I remember is his appearances on the left?

I assume he offers something as footballer or surely we would have terminated his contract or does it have to be mutually consenting?

A 3 year contract, though? I don't think there was a queue of clubs wanting him so maybe we should have offered him a one year deal.
