2019/20 Cuco Martina

I think you and I are the only 2 people in the "Martina wasnt that bad" camp.

He would play left back try and get forward and when we lost the ball and the other team countered he literally didn't even make an effort to get back he would just jog.

Still remember when Salah just walked past him to score at anfield as well

He was that bad the stoke fans wanted him out at the club and they were bottom 5 of the championship

It’s overblown to legendary proportions yeah. People need someone to blame for that season so I’ll gladly let that be Cuco.

Playing left back for Everton, unless youre Baines or Nuno Valente, can be a poisoned chalice. Pistone got a rougher deal than he deserved, and there are numerous other examples. I think it started years ago in what was the old 'Paddock'. That bottom corner could be a nightmare for an Everton full back...and see how quickly the crowd even now are turning on Digne.

Has he ever been used in a right back position at Everton, all I remember is his appearances on the left?

I assume he offers something as footballer or surely we would have terminated his contract or does it have to be mutually consenting?

Yeah, he played right back regularly from August to October that season. He was even worse in his natural position than he was at left back.

Coleman has had plenty of assists, I wouldn’t use that as a defence of Martina.

I’m just saying that for a player with obviously little talent, being played out of position, he actually worked that season to improve his game to the point where he actually provided an assist through a cross with his wrong foot.

Not many other people in that squad can say they improved their game that season. Most were absolutely awful.

Maybe it’s just because apart from Baines and Valente we’ve had abysmal left backs.

I just knew someone would come up with that one. Always thought Nuno was excellent myself...best tackler of his time.

Lovely cultured footballer. Had some games where he couldn’t defend to save his life (think SWP tore him apart just after we bought him) but when he was on it he had a great left foot.

Personally think he's a bit soft.

6 months left, still only 30-years old, so probably got 3-4 years left in him, so why wouldn't he try grab a loan, and try to impress someone?

Personally, have no gripe with Martina. He didn't ask to be played wrong side of defence and didn't ask for a 3 year deal. Koeman on the other hand.

...and Steve Walsh says hello.
