Because they've triggered Article 50. Two year timetable set in stone.

They can only move the start of discussions, but realistically even two years isn't long enough to do it.

The correct answer at this point (but it'll never happen) is to realise the Brexit vote was a protest vote, withdraw Article 50 and run a second referendum.

That begs the question of what question/s would be on a second referendum paper?

It'll never happen, but withdraw Article 50... Have the negotiations on a leaving deal and once the bones of the deal on things like free movement, single market etc etc are known, then offer the choice to the people to vote on.

Is what should have happened in the first place, unfortunately the leave campaigns knew that they had to rely on the inherent xenophobia and jingoism of vast swathes of the country to get it triggered before people actually got to see it was a dreadful idea. And here we are. An absolute shambles.

It's all Cameron's fault, he was petrified of losing Tory votes to UKIP so promised the referendum. He could and should have just ignored it, governments renege on manifesto promises all the time.

Should have done what Brown did about joining the Euro and put conditions on it that would never happen.

This is more or less what will happen, the DUP are needed to pass the stage of creating a government that looks stable-ish. If the heat comes on from the press and therefore public (say the DUP hold the Tories to ransom etc.) they may be forced to drop them. (Therefore expect new moderate bills to be passed early on when parliament resumes when they have most strength) Brexit negotiations may not be cross party but will be tempered as if they can't pass a vote in the commons then it's fast forward to a no deal and another GE.

Two things we know for sure, there will be a Tory leadership contest before the next election whenever that it is and if it gets that far she will be gone as soon as the brexit talks have concluded.

They want the Good Friday Agreement ended and they will do that be demanding a hard border on the island of Ireland. And border checks on the island of Ireland is the only way the UK can stop/control EU nationals from entering the UK mainland by the backdoor May knows this but is still prepared to get in bed with the DUP to save herself politically. Can't see this talk of an agreement lasting very long. This is a big week-end for May.

Tory mp and former Northern Ireland minister Owen Patterson below reassures us that gay rights won't be involved in the negotiations with the DUP but abortion timetables might be , so that's all good .

I don’t see many major social issues coming up in the next parliament.

You might get a debate I suppose on further reduction of abortion times as medical science advances.

But the stuff you mention like gay rights and all that, which you’re probably referring to, that is all devolved.

It’s not only a free vote issue, most of this, but it’s nearly all devolved and that’s down to the politicians in Northern Ireland to resolve.
