Not sure how anybody can say Mirallas is a better player considering how little time he's actually had on the pitch. Career movement (Drenthe being bought by Real while Mirallas never really impressed in France and ended up playing in Greece) suggests Royston has more ability.

Let's not fall into the trap of over hyping Kev when he's barely played, Drenthe is a hell of a player when he wants to be.

The ability, hunger and work-rate shown by belg Kev compares favourably with the likes of Eden hazard, Angel Di Maria, Alexis Sanchez and in a lesser sense Theo Walcott. Drenthe just looked like a talented but deeply flawed player who will frustrate more than not.

I've been away for a few weeks and my pint with my mate has been cancelled due to the snow so not hearing much and mostly what I'm hearing is "it's all quiet " . I'm told we've got enough for one maybe two loans but no real movement . As usual I'd expect a few bits though in the last few days . I do know we came very close to a very decent striker from the Dutch league but moyes changed his mind.

was it that van dijk kid? or someone older. lets hope moyes was right because let's just say, i'm not the only one who has my suspicions when it comes to moyes and strikers

exactly, mirallas has looked great, but i wouldn't say he's good enough to be the best player of an international tournament or a team real madrid would look at. Think it's just been so long since we've had a genuine pacy winger who runs at people that we've started to kid ourselves. i'd love to have drenthe back here to be honest - just don't believe what has been said. lets not forget he's be a cover for pienaar as well as mirallas. in an ideal world we'd have a well headed drenthe and donovan to fight with mirallas, osman and pienaar for those front three positions.

Would only take Drenthe if it looks like Donovan is staying in LA, we'll see but a switched on and appreciative Drenthe could be an asset, not as good as Mirallas mind, but he has pace and skill, just needs an attitude readjustment.

I understand what you are saying bud, but no finishing ability I will never forget the ease at which he curled one past the Blackpool keeper last season, pure class?? Drenthe in my opinion is superior to Mirallas.
Real Madrid saw it and you dont win a European Player of the year award if your no much chop.

David Moyes had Drenthe at the club for a number of months. In that time he will have formed an opinon on him ,as a player and as a person.
That is what will determine if Drenthe just might have a future at our club.
If he liked him as a person and realised that he didn't have te maturity to cope with was happening in his life...then mabe.More likely is that he believes he is a basket case a waste of talent and his chances long since have gone.

Drenthe still has plenty of time to have a long and successful career, the reason that probably won't happen is Drenthe himself.

People are actually saying Drenthe is better than Mirallas, wow, just wow. Mirallas if kept fit and playing the way he was will attract the interest of many top clubs around the world. He is a big talent, who needed the opportunity he was given at Olympiakos to show how good he can be. Mark my words, if he stays fit he will be the star player in this team.

Much bigger name mate , this fellas agent is jelavic's and was in fairly heavy talks over the player but moyes pulled it . Whether financial or other factors I've no idea.

You'd think that means we are after strikers but I know fox will say the same as I understand it moyes is impossible to predict in the market as his priorities change regularly . I know he asked more than one aren't about right backs a month ago but I think Coleman is looking like he's making that his own . Like I say it's tough to have any idea what's happening with us

The thing is, whilst you use the qualifier "if kept fit" for Mirallas, if you used the qualifier "if not a lunatic" for Drenthe the same would apply.

There's no doubting he's a very good footballer (Real Madrid brought him in and when he played for us he invariably played very well) - it's his mentality that's completely off, not his ability.

thank god i don't live with my mum anymore otherwise i would have kicked the cat out of the window. If he's worrying about finances though, that says a lot about his short term future. we really need another striker thought if we're to get CL, hope he has something lined up

I don't know the reasons mate it might just be moyes changed his mind but he wouldn't have been cheap . It's not a criticism of moyes and he has tight budgets but he does tend to be a bit changeable in his targets so that could easily have been the reason as much as money , this bloke wouldn't have been cheap though .

One of these then... Jelavics agent only has the following on his books....

Duje Cop, Ante Rujkavina, Mario Bubimir, Dinko Trebotic, Mateo Bertosa or Lovre Kalinic...

No big name there...??

were the selling club desperate to sell? i.e. they'll lower their demand last day of the transfer window and moyes will go back if he doesn't hit any other targets? if he costs a lot then how could we have afforded him in the first place.

cheers for the info as ever
