think it was a case of giroud being the number 1 (maybe that was balde from lazio though?) target for most of the summer and we genuinly believed we had a very good chance of getting him, but we have many alternatives in mind which we will now turn to.

Loads on here will be saying "he was never ever coming here, why didn't we move on to other targets in july?" etc, but they don't know anything about the situation. Just because the bedwetters wanted every single signing in on the first day of the window, doesn't mean our club should just give up on their highest priorities. We're still going after our number 1 priority attacking midfielder wheras 70% of this forum would have got bored it didn't work out like football manager and instead ended up getting some 18 year old for £25m because his potential rating in 10 years time is 4 and a half stars. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Koeman has stated he wants players in the 28+ yr old age bracket as we have enough youth
Why do people find this so hard to accept.
FIFA17 and FM have a lot to answer for

Late in the window is no good to Swansea as they need to move on a replacement.

If it really is going to drag on that long then I hope we are putting the wheels in motion on other targets in the mean time. Need and CB and target man before the window ends.

exactly, i mean if he was playing for them, it would make more sense to them holding on for longer. But atm they're not playing him and because they're not selling him they can't bring in someone to play his position and they're also paying his wages to sit on his arse ... so all a bit odd.

Possibly mate. Especially if we let Barkley go cheaply. Personally I wouldn't sell him for less than £35m, especially to somebody like Spurs. In my head I had Barkley £30/35m, McCarthy £25m and £10/15m for the other 3.
I agree that we should get about £30m for Ross but realistically think more like £25m, be amazed if we got more than £15m for McCarthy and £10mish for the rest. Hope you're right though!

He cost £13m 4 years ago and is now in his prime. He's still a top defensive midfielder and would be a coup for anybody below the top 7. Based in current prices we would be daft to sell for less than £20m and I would hope he'd fetch £25m. If we didn't have so many similar players I would want him to stay and forgive him his aberrations with the national team.

£50m for 28 year old Gylfi. A season later £25m-£30m for Gylfi.
£25m for 23 year old Ross. A season later £0 for Ross.

Each results in a loss of about £20m-£25m.

Would rather Ross linked up with Rooney for a season and we played proper football.
We must have enough talented players to cover dead balls and corners, to not need to spend £50m surely?

Enough youth? Only two players in our starting 11 were u23

Great way to use arbitrary numbers to hide the truth.

DCL and Sandro are u23.

Pickford is 23 which let's be honest is young for a goalie at this level.

Davies, Holgate and Lookman all u23 on the bench.

Keane and Klassen are 24, think Besic is too.

There's plenty of youth in the squad.

Ross does not want to play for Everton whether we want to or should use him is irrelevant
