Everton End the Year with a Win at Nottingham Forest

Everton took all three points at the City Ground in a 2-0 win against Nottingham Forest.

The Toffees travelled without Michael Keane and Charley Alcaraz as Moyes had to rejig his team once again.

Jack Grealish was only fit enough for the bench after being unavailable for the trip to Turf Moor.

Without a goal in three games and a makeshift starting XI, few would’ve been optimistic ahead of kick-off.

However, James Garner put in a masterclass performance in midfield, opening the scoring on 19 minutes.

An intelligent through ball from Dwight McNeil found Garner in space inside the box, before the 24-year-old found the net in front of the Trent End.

It was another impressive performance from Tim Iroegbunam, while Tyler Dibling also looked lively.

With 11 minutes remaining, Thierno Barry doubled Everton’s lead and his tally for the season so far.

The Frenchman started and ended a brilliant move. However, it was James Garner’s assist that stands out as a moment of pure class.

The win lifts Everton to eighth in the table, just four points off fourth place. While the Champions League is likely out of reach, Europe is certainly a realistic target this season.

A lot will depend on recruitment next month. A late expression of interest has reportedly been made in Spurs winger Brennan Johnson.

A striker is also a must, but it’s great to see Barry get on the scoresheet again. He’s still got a long way to go, but he played well tonight.

Out of our three victories this month, two of them were against Nottingham Forest. Indeed, Thierno Barry must love playing against them.

That’s five goals we’ve put past Sean Dyche’s side in the past three weeks. Barry has got two of them.

Can we play them every week?
