Everton manager David Moyes has revealed his thoughts on the form of midfielder Tim Iroegbunam.
The Scot’s midfield options have been reduced significantly of late. Injuries have caught up with us while AFCON’s mid-season interruption has come at an inconvenient time.
Iroegbunam has been filling in for the experienced Idrissa Gueye, and performances have been mixed.
The 22-year-old had a nightmare against Newcastle, but performed well against Bournemouth and Arsenal.
Indeed, Moyes has given an honest assessment of Tim’s progress. The Everton boss said he’s ‘got an opportunity’ to establish himself.
He said: “I thought Tim played really well against Arsenal. I wasn’t so sure against Burnley, but I’m still really pleased that he’s improving all the time.
“He’s generally struggled a little bit in the 90 minutes of the games and he’s happy to play them because we’re short on substitution choices and what we can do really, so he’s having to find a way to get through the games. He’s done well for us, so we’re pleased with what he’s doing.
“He’s got an opportunity to take the jersey and hang on to it if he plays well enough to do so. He’s still got a bit to do, and I’ve mentioned that I want him to keep playing forward and be a bit more positive in his overall play.
“There are parts of his game that are very good, like his recovery and getting back to win things back have been excellent.”
TIM IS MAKING PROGRESS, BUT WILL NEED TO FIND CONSISTENCY TO KEEP HIS PLACE
The midfielder seems all too aware of the chance he has to hang on to his place in the team.
He too was honest about his form, stating that he’s only ‘showing glimpses’ of what he can do.
This evening will be another test against a midfield of Elliot Anderson and Morgan Gibbs-White.
Hopefully he can show what he’s capable of at the City Ground.
