Tim Iroegbunam Now Has an Opportunity that he Must Seize – Opinion

Everton midfielder Tim Iroegbunam now has an opportunity to establish himself in David Moyes’ starting XI.

The 22-year-old has shown glimpses of his potential since his arrival from Aston Villa last year.

However, the young midfielder has yet to truly establish himself as a starter each week.

Indeed, Tim has started four league games for Everton this season, making an additional five appearances off the bench.

Last season he made five starts, with a further 13 games as a substitute in the Premier League.

There’s real competition for places in Everton’s midfield, and Iroegbunam would’ve likely continued to operate on the fringes.

However, Idrissa Gueye will be unavailable until the New Year. Indeed, the 36-year-old will serve a suspension for his straight red card on Monday.

The Senegalese international will then link up with his countrymen for AFCON, which runs until January 18th.

Merlin Rohl would’ve perhaps been given the nod in Gueye’s absence. However, the 23-year-old recently underwent surgery on a hernia, so will also be sidelined.

Equally, James Garner could continue his fine midfield form, though also performed well at right-back against Fulham.

IROEGBUNAM HAS POTENTIAL, NOW IS HIS TIME TO SHOW WHAT HE CAN DO

It’s a headache Moyes could do without, but it opens the door for Tim Iroegbunam to step up as a senior player.

There’s no doubt the 23-year-old has potential, and put in an impressive cameo during Monday’s 1-0 at Old Trafford.

He also put in a solid display in the 2-0 win over Fulham, starting the game alongside Idrissa Gueye.

Injuries, suspensions and international responsibilities all occurring at once. It’s an immense inconvenience, but Tim could yet benefit from the situation.

It could be a chance for the midfielder to fully establish himself in David Moyes’ starting XI. It’s an opportunity he can’t afford to let pass him by.
