‘I take full responsibility’: Idrissa Gueye Issues Apology Following Red Card

Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye has issued an apology following his dismissal last night.

The Senegalese international was sent off after 13 minutes at Old Trafford in controversial circumstances.

A miscommunication between Gueye and teammate Michael Keane led to an altercation between the two.

Gueye appeared to slap Keane in the face, forcing Jordan Pickford to come between the two.

The 36-year-old became the first player in 17 years to be dismissed for striking a teammate in the Premier League.

As per the Guardian, Gueye was unable to address his teammates at half-time, but asked to address Keane and the squad after the match.

The midfielder received a round of applause from his teammates and has subsequently posted an apology on social media.

He said: “I want to apologise first to Michael Keane,” he wrote. “I take full responsibility for my reaction. I also apologise to my teammates, the staff, the fans and the club.

“What happened does not reflect who I am or the values I stand for. Emotions can run high, but nothing justifies such behaviour. I’ll make sure it never happens again.”

GUEYE WILL BE A BIG MISS FOR BLUES, BUT FRINGE PLAYERS SHOULD SEE AN OPPORTUNITY

Gueye will now be suspended for games against Newcastle, Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth.

With AFCON beginning next month, Gueye will then meet up with the Senegal squad, extending his absence.

Merlin Rohl’s recent injury means he will be unavailable, which could provide Tim Iroegbunam an opportunity.

Alternatively, Moyes could utilise James Garner, who is having a standout season for the Toffees.

Despite Gueye’s dismissal, Everton secured a memorable 1-0 win at Old Trafford last night.

Gueye will be missed whilst unavailable, but fringe players could benefit. It’s a headache Moyes could do without, but shouldn’t distract from what was a fantastic evening for the Toffees.
