Everton midfielder Tim Iroegbunam has vowed to continue to improve as he gains more regular first team football.
The 22-year-old has become a starter in recent weeks due to the absence of Idrissa Gueye.
Indeed, Iroegbunam stepped in for Gueye following the 36-year-old’s red card at Old Trafford last month.
With the Senegalese international now competing at AFCON, the young midfielder is determined to keep his place in the starting XI.
He said: “I’m working hard in training. In the games I’m showing glimpses of what I can do.
“Obviously, as I’ve said before, there’s definitely more to come. But, yeah, it’s just showing all I can do and really taking the opportunity.
“I’m feeling good. I feel like I start to tire towards the end, so it’s just about getting those fitness levels up so I can play really strong throughout the whole 90 minutes but I think with more games that will come.
“There’s obviously clarity in what the manager wants his midfielders to do. But it’s just about showing my strengths and bringing them into the team when I’m playing.”
TIM HAS BOUNCED BACK FROM NEWCASTLE NIGHTMARE, BUT NOW HAS TO FIND CONSISTENCY
Iroegbunam’s dire display in the 4-1 defeat to Newcastle was one to forget for the young midfielder.
However, he quickly bounced back and has since put in some promising performances for the Blues.
The former Villa player is clearly eager to become a regular starter under Moyes. Indeed, he recently spoke of using Gueye’s absence as an opportunity to establish himself.
It has been in glimpses that we’ve seen what Iroegbunam is capable of. However, a prolonged run in the first team could allow the 22-year-old to build the momentum that has previously eluded him.
I like his attitude. He’s seen a chance to launch his Everton career and he seems determined to seize it.
Idrissa Gueye will leave big boots to fill, but it’s a problem the club will need to address at some point.
Perhaps his participation at AFCON is a blessing in disguise, as it gives Moyes the chance to trial Tim in the Gana role.
