Everton have emerged as a late contender for Brennan Johnson’s signature ahead of the January transfer window.
The Spurs winger had looked set to join Crystal Palace, with a deal agreed for the 24-year-old.
However, the Toffees are now one of a number of Premier League clubs looking to hijack the move.
Sunderland have also reportedly expressed their interest, as have Bournemouth. Reports suggest the Wales international is to decide his destination within the next 48 hours.
Johnson scored 18 goals in 51 games in all competitions for Spurs last season, contributing a further seven assists.
The Welshman has struck four times in 22 appearances in all competitions so far this season.
The Toffees need an injection of goals and creativity next month and Johnson would be a superb addition.
With key players absent, our lack of squad depth has become frighteningly apparent in recent weeks.
Indeed, Moyes’ side have now gone three games without a goal. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Iliman Ndiaye’s goals have not been redistributed elsewhere within the squad.
Consequently, we’ve stopped scoring entirely. A player of Johnson’s attacking quality is precisely what we need this coming month.
JOHNSON WOULD BE A SUPERB ADDITION TO MOYES’ ATTACKING OPTIONS
The right winger has fallen down the pecking order under Thomas Frank and is said to be unhappy with the limited playing time.
He would be a significant upgrade on Dwight McNeil, who has been linked with a move away from Merseyside.
Indeed, tonight’s opponents Nottingham Forest are said to be interested, with Sean Dyche keen on a reunion.
The competition for Johnson’s signature is stiff. However, he’ll certainly get minutes on the pitch at the Blues.
If we pull it off, it’ll be a fantastic start to January and hopefully a sign that Moyes will be backed this window.
