RE: The Stones sub.

Strange to put on an inexperienced 19 year old defender when a goal up in the derby with 10 minutes to go. If you're going to make that switch (defender on) why not Heitinga?

I'd have liked to have seen Naismith brought on, useful as he is in the air.

Because he's a f*cking Hiroshima of a defender mate.

From the Stones sub till the end of the game we had two shots in nearly 15 minutes and conceded a goal, before that we were all over them and had pulled back 2 goals to take the lead.
That is why its in my negatives column.
Its exactly what Moyes used to do, exactly what would rile you and get you frothing at the mouth.

He did what he thought was right, it went wrong, this is a positives and negatives thread, I consider that a negative as it cost us 2 points, and you would of too if it was Moyes not Martinez.

From the moment we went 3-2 up Liverpool were ALWAYS going to come back strong last 10 mins. They had nothing to lose, it had nothing to do with stones coming on as a defensive sub. It was a tactical switch and we still had chances after that anyway.

If Distin hadn't given away a stupid foul and/or we'd defended it properly it would of been described as a perfect sub.

This, and the Barry foul for the free in the first half - I know I have posted this in another thread but really discipline is another thing we need to tighten up on. Don't concede silly frees in dangerous areas!!

As for the defending at same frees/corners......

Overall though I just love Everton under Martinez. (y)

- : Sturridge's dance. I'd be embarrassed if a player from our club did something as gimpy as that on a regular basis

+ : Kevin Mirallas stepping it up and becoming my new hero. Lucozade in wilshires face and the suarez mauling on saturday spring to mind. Oh, and being fecking great at footy again.

When he brought stones on he pushed Barkley back up the pitch to attack.

So just to confirm, now that we have Martinez, being 3-2 up, swapping an attacking player for a defender with 10 minutes to go, and finishing 3-3 now goes in the postive column not the negative one?
Noted, ta.

Positive - we absolutely ****ted them and should have had 5 if Mignolet hadnt had a world class performance
Negative - we ****ted them and concended 3 very preventable goals from set pieces

should have been talking about a 5-1 result not a 3-3, then again just feels boss to know they will be ****ting themselves for that return at theirs

This is what I said. No need to sub straight after we score. I would understand 90th minute and onwards but not then.

Am I the only one who thinks Mignolet didn't have an amazing performance? His save were Lukaku tried to chip him was class but the shot by Deulofeu and Lukaku one were Barkley done a through ball to him was straight at him. He played well as did Howard but not world class ffs

Positives: When Baines got injured he could of easily made a 'steady' change such as pushing Distin to LB, bringing on Heitinga or Stones as CB. Doing what he did, having the confidence to put Barkley CM against Gerrard and bringing Delaflou into the arena was a good confident statement

Negatives: Defending set pieces

Martinez really is just the best ever.

+: 3 goals vs the reds, going at it when our best player went off injured, our youngsters acquitting themselves well (Lukaku, Barkley, McCarthy, Deulofeu, Stones- actually mad how young our team is), Mirallas becoming a hero

-: Poor defending, Flannagan's face, shot conversion (although Mignolet was superb)

All in all the best derby I've ever seen. My heart was beating out my chest rewatching it yesterday. Amazing.
