I've had a good half hour to come down from that megarush of a match! Which brings me nicely to my first positive:
positives:
- it was an epic match! Full of incident, swings-n-roundabouts and high-drama. Just what derbies should be.
- we never gave up, and we went for it even right at the death: everyone from the players to the manager proved to us that they no longer fear these games.
- Lukaku was almost gonna be a negative with his Jela-like first 60 minutes. His goals, again, were crucial to us. As important as he is, we really shouldn't be that reliant on him.
- Our young trio Ross, McCarthy and Delboy were well into it, trying all sorts of neat tricky things to get us moving. Del & Barkley made some mistakes, but I'd rather that than play an ultra-safe sideways-pass game.
- Our goals came from pressuring them rather than luck or mistake on their part. This bodes well if we can apply that same pressure on other teams.
- Scoring 3 vs the red poo is great, and the first time we've done that since the AJ derby, I think.
- Kev doing Suarez and not getting sent off is one for lore.
- no dodgy refereeing or outrageous bad luck to mar the post-match feeling.
- our new manager, once again, makes subs that improves the situation.
negatives:
- defensive lack of focus caused the first two conceded goals. We really can spare ourselves so much stress (and gain league points) if we didn't switch off at key moments so often.
- we didn't win...and ye gods how beautiful would a win have been?
So an easy positive derby experience for me that! Yeah, they equalised with a few minutes to go...but after the initial disappointment wore off this is the best I've felt post-derby for a long time.
