Your best Everton eleven

My dad who seen a lot of the Vision always reckoned Young sometimes struggled with the burden of expectation placed on him by the fans
Every time he got the ball a sense of excitement came over the fans and the crowd hushed for a second or 2
It’s though they expected him to do something magic with every ball he got

..your Dad could well be right, Matey, it’s a very decent appraisal. Young was pleasant on the eye because he moved so well and had a majestic leap but I wasn’t ever sure if Harry Catterick totally trusted him. Fine player, no doubt about that.

From about 05 ish
Pickford
Coleman Jags Lescott Baines
Arteta Gueye
Barkley Cahill Peinaar
Lukaku

Really hard to do since we haven’t really had a good rw since I’ve been watching

Premier League era only:

GK: Martyn
RB: Coleman
LB: Baines
CB: Watson
CB: Yobo
DM: Gravesen
AM: Arteta
AM: Cahill
RW: Kanchelskis
LW: Richarlison
ST: Lukaku

Southall
Snodin
Gough
Watson
Baines
Kanchelskis
Reid
Gomes
Richarlison
Lineker
Beardsley

Beardsley and lineker partnership should be everyone’s choice , basically Beardsley and cole, except lineker was on a different level completely. Only reason I didn’t pick lineker is because I never actually seen him play for us. Also forgot about snodin, he was a very , very good footballer

I’m surprised the Vision is not in your best 11
I took the interprative liberty of Best 11 to mean best team, not individuals in individual positions...which has been done to death and more or less picks its self.
Take Fullback, nobody will argue much with Ray Wilson, he was the best LB in the world and you just cant get better than that.
But Fullbacking has changed, what was needed to be worlds best then is different than now.
Young was a key part of the early development of that team.

if you haven't watched the whole of the Everton Vs Man U. season 67-68 on vimeo I urge you and anybody else who may not have seen it live back in the day...take 90mins and look, see a Young, half deaf and dodgy knees at the tag end of his career score a worldie against a team that was to be European Champions 9mths later.

Yeah some might say, it was easier back then fancy dans werent expected to do any tracking back then.
See Young covering at RB & LB
See the ease in which a young Harvey takes the ball off true greats of the game...yoink.

...and breathe.

!878 and upwards: Pickford
Coleman. Hibbert. Keeley. Burrows.
S. Hughes. Nulty Nyarko.
Barmby. B. Wright. Angell.

Reserve 11. Southall
Parker. Wilson.
Gabriel. Labone. Kay.
Steven. Rooney. Young. Vernon. Ring.

Pickford
Coleman - Jagielka - Lescott - Baines
Arteta - Heitinga - Fellaini - Pienaar
Cahill
Saha
In my opinion, there was no beating all when In Form. People may question Heitinga & Fellaini but both on their day were unstoppable. Also, the Jagielka - Lescott partnership was absolutely superb.

Robles
Kenny, Holgate, Fatty, Martina
Sniderfraud, Davies, Gana
DCL, Niasse, Vlasic

Whoops. That is close to the team that winker Koeman left us with.
