Would you take back Steve Walsh?

He's a very good scout that can't be argued.

He's a useless Director of Football, that also can't be argued.

Makes me a little sick inside that we actually could have got Robertson and Maguire from when they were at Hull but because Walsh had no backbone we paid out 30 million for Keane whose career was made in a defensive structure sitting on it's penalty box and didn't get anyone for LB at all so had to play Cuco the clown for nearly a whole season.

Even if you could put the blame solely on Koeman for the first part of the mess, the fact we then hired Allardyce and continued to waste money under Walsh's watch is the nail in the coffin for him and it's no surprise his recommendations were refused.

For me, the buck on failed transfers stops with Walsh.
I think both parties need to agree on a transfer, but he was the DoF, he shouldn’t have a coach dictating to him which players he wants.

That only holds true if the club implemented a conventional DOF structure.

If they hired Walsh as a DOF but simultaneously told Koeman he'd have his way on transfers then they undermined SW before he even began. Course that may not be how it happened.

I don't need to disprove it mate, I didn't say it happened. I did read an interview in the same publication today in which Klaassen stated that he didn't think it was Koeman who had specifically wanted him, but i'm sure you know best. They're both Dutch right? So it's basically indisputable. You know what the Dutch are like, always buying eachother aren't they?

I'll say again, the club can't prove it didn't happen. They can say it didn't, but they're not going to have documents signed and dated by all parties saying 'we absolutely have not been offered the chance to sign Robertson and Maguire for £20m' that they can produce, so it'll just be their word against his. And nobody, possibly other than you, cares enough to want them to.

Wow sorry if I upset you dear but I don't know best, that's just my opinion and if it differs from yours I must be wrong and a know all to boot ! No hard feelings not really that interested, can we just agree to disagree, without being nasty. Cheers ;)

Not sure what you thought was nasty about my post. I never said you were wrong, I literally just asked you what made you so sure Koeman had 'definitely' wanted Klaassen, and your answer was to ask me to prove that he didn't. If you want to make out like that's me being nasty then no worries.

This is some real guff. I'll admit i have been wanting to hear a Steve Walsh interview for a while, I wanted to hear his version of events and how and why it went so badly wrong. I did not expect him to be a full on, pass the book coward though. What's the actual point in him saying that he had a deal agreed with Hull for Robertson and Maguire for £20m!? He signed Michael Keane, who had a year left on his deal at Burnley for £30m earlier that summer - that's probably why the club didn't back that deal - we'd already signed a centre back...

I also notice that he's very quiet on the Yannick Bolasie and Davy Klaasen signings, amongst several others. God what a disaster this guy was, the fact he's trying to blame the club is very revealing about his character.

Fine let's just leave it at that.

I think the part of the interview that underlined Walsh’s failing as a DoF is that whilst negotiating to SELL Lukaku he tells Mourinho i.e. the purchaser that Lukaku is “a big baby”. Exactly how is that helping to extract the highest price for a player???
I'd imagine that was said POST sale.

I said it before and I'll say it again. What Walsh did up there with you made zero sense, compared to what he did here over several spells. It stunk of not actually having control over transfers or others having too much of a say. Whilst he was promoted above his level, I still think there is more going on than meets the eye.

Probably not, considering Walsh is a thick bell end.
A thick bell end that created three totally different teams, winning the top three divisions of English football for a combined total of about £30m. Setting up our scouting department that to this day still reaps the benefits of what he put in place.

He didn’t “create” anything, he was a scout who spotted a few great players over a career of about 15 years. He’s been dining off Kante and Mahrez for years and will do for the rest of his life.
