Would you sell Jelavic?

This time last year I was watching the most clinical striker I've ever seen in our colours. And he's hard not to love.

He's like a nice bird who's put the beef on and gone a bit miserable. You could probs do better but if she loses the timber and cheers up you'll be gutted you pulled the trigger early.

For these reasons I say give her/him another season to get themselves right.

This.

He's been playing non-stop for what, 23 months now? When he arrived last year we were ALL made up: 11 goals in about 16 games IIRC. Sure, this season will be a disappointment to him as well as us, but how about some perspective - whilst playing poorly he's still scored more than Mirallas, Baines and Pienaar. Big Vic is widely acknowledged to be having his best season yet, and he's scored no more than Jelavic.

If we stopped spending 40 minutes of every game playing bloody hoofball and also invested in some creative, pacy midfielders, we might see a better return from Jelavic. Why on earth anyone thinks Negredo, Benteke, Lukaku etc would perform substantially better, if they were put in his position and supplied in the same way, is beyond me. We've asked him to live off scraps for large portions of this season and unsurprisingly, he's not prospered. Let's look at replacing some of our over-30s midfielders before we write Jelavic off.

Literally the first time I ever realised what that meant.

To be fair tho Tree he's stunk the place out as well. Falling over his feet, always offside,mis-kicks galore. I like the lid but you can't blame the team for his form.

You're quite right, all of these examples have crept into his game. The question is, has he just magically became gash or have external factors slowly eroded his performance, leading to him trying to "force" his game more? And by external factors I mean playing non-stop for nearly two years, being asked to play in a substantially different style, relying more on long hoofs for service than on having the ball played into his feet.... I think he looked good in the first few games this season - against Man U, Villa, Newcastle (before colliding with the woodwork) and Southampton, for instance.

Look, he and Vic play the same lone striker role for us; both have scored 8 goals this season, based on the service they've received fromt he rest of the team. We all agree Vic's having his best ever season and Jela's having his worst ever. Doesn't that suggest the sytem/tactics are at least PARTLY to blame?

This is a very good point, if Moyes and his staff are still here next season I wouldn't be confident if we landed f*cking Aguero due to our inability to play to a strikers strengths.

It's a very weak case in point but look at Jo, he went from playing in a 4-4-2 with the very good Wagner Love to playing up front on his own for a team that has an annoying penchant for launching it long when the sideways crab passes haven't magically knocked the opposition out like nerve gas.

Mate, I agree up to a point. Our system may not be perfectly suited to his style. But, we do play to his strength's sometimes. I wouldn't say our style has changed much from the second half of last season either TBH. In fact we've got better players playing it.

Like you I think four or five different things have all affected his game. I don't think you can blame service in the main though.

They've both scored significantly more this season at ****ter teams with worse supply
