Would you see Rodwell go for 30m?

Such speculative figures for Rodwell are not massively directly the result of his performances, of course. Yes, he has shown some excellent assets and looks like being a good player but that's what the price is based on - his potential. And, naturally, the state of the market.

Of course, we can always use what I like to call The Milner Principle*. If Milner is worth £24m, then...

*soon to be replaced by The Torres Theory of Madness.

What was Milner worth before the season in which he was the best player for the side that finished 6th, was named Young Player of the Year and played for England in the WC? I think most thought the £12 million Villa paid for him looked expensive prior to last season. The point I'm making being that big clubs tend not to pay large fees for players until they've actually done something. Milner was only worth £24 million to City, after he'd had a great season and become an England regular. So it seems Milners value was determined by what he did on the football pitch and I think despite press hype, the same will be true of Rodwell. The press might claim Man Utd etc are interested, but until he starts producing displays that demonstrate he'd have a big impact on them, I doubt those clubs will actually show any interest. I'm not saying that a low bid should be accepted for Rodwell, as there seems no need to sell. But at the same time I don't see a big bid coming in for him as he's done nothing to suggest he's worth that sort of money City paid for Milner, let alone more. Big clubs might be following him, but they will also be looking at other similar players his age and the likes of M'Vila and Sissoko are way ahead of him and will cost much less than £30 million.

Ultimatley the reason I think he'll stay is because Everton will have their valuation and I can't seen any top club being even close to matching it. In fact I can't see them even making a low £10 million bid, as they don't make bids for the sake of it. They'd only bid for him if they thought he'd improve them and I don't think he would.

At £30m, we'd probably risk a criminal charge.

I'm not sure of seeing anything in Rodwell which suggests we have a player capable of anything beyond someone like Michael Carrick.

time will tell how wrong you are. your entitled to your opinion but why would we sell either Fellaini or Rodwell unless they put in a transfer request.also- do you think Aston Villa or Tottenham will buy them for £20m - no- thought not. so that leaves Chelsea or man city and if they come in for either of our 2 players we can and will ask for mega-bucks. did you know Carroll left Newcastle for £35m - so its no good speculating on smaller transfer fees for our players- where is the mileage in that

I don't believe we will sell either Fellaini or Rodwell this summer. Not because we'll be unable to negotiate a fee, just because i don't feel there will be any serious interest until they actually prove themselves head and shoulders above everyone else in our team in terms of ability. Rodwell isn't even a starter for us.

Carroll had established himself as Newcastle's best player, started for England and was one of the top scorers in the league. The £35m fee is indicative of the rush to find a replacement for Torres as the close of the January window approached, and given they had just sold Torres for an arguably even more extortionate fee, it didn't quite have the same risk factor as someone bidding £25-30m for Rodwell in the summer.

Your missing the point. If Rodwell or Fellaini got wind of serious interest from City, United, Chelsea or anyone in that category, then i'm fairly certain they'd ask us to listen to the offer. Now as far as i'm aware no firm offer has been forthcoming for either, and only time will tell if those sides will ever show serious interest in the two. But once the player has decided he's interested in a move away, We are in no fit financial state to be demanding anything. And its feutile holding on to any player once they decide to leave.

At £30m, we'd probably risk a criminal charge.

I'd agree with that.

I would sell Rodwell for £30m on one condition...that Moyes got all the money to with what he wishes.

But that would never happen. So I guess no then I wouldn't.

I've not read the posts in this thread but I'd like to say I wouldn't like to see Rodwell go for 30m.......

This bird I once met said he's good in bed and all that but I'm not sure i'd be comfortable watching.

Bad comparrison IMO. Carrick can only hold 1 position really.

I think he hasnt nailed down a position that he can play week in week out that many people doubt he has potential. He's played defensive mid, centre mid, attacking mid, and right wing - never regularly, and never as a key part of the team.

Compare that to Jack Wilshire who is a key member of the 1st team at Arsenal, you can see a more rounded footballer in terms of his position (central mid) - you can see what he can and cant do on a regular basis in the same position.

Rodders played a lot as a DM from being a centre half and looked like he could master it in a year or 2. Now he seems suited to playing off the striker and you could see him master that in a year or 2 (the less said about him on the right the better).

He has yet to master anything...but the big thing is...he looks comfortable and impressive in more than one position - and at 19 there lies the potential.

Im sure if you stuck Rodwell upfront on his own he'd look okay...hell, he'd be better than Anichebe in some respects. Which why I'd be gutted if he left...but understandable with this ****hawk of a board we have.

I'm gonna get serious now, Carrick? F'kin CARRICK??????????????

That lad is complete tosh, TOSH!

I've never known a midfielder that can't pass, tackle OR shoot. It's hilarious.

Like watching Frank "the crab" Lampard but at least that boy can finish and shoot well

Didn't Man Utd pay over 20mil for Carrick? (Another bad buy for a lot money there too btw)

He belong in the Jenas, Dyer, Bowyer, Joe Cole, Alan Smith etc generation of players that had potential who never reached at...and are now 30 years old.

Utd played £18 million for Carrick and after they signed him won 3 titles in a row and the CL. Also Carrick had been capped for England at 19 years old and was nominated for Young Player of the Year. He's just been given a new contract at Utd. So whilst he doesn't get the media and fan frenzy, those who really matter rate him. When Ferguson bought Carrick (and he has been a succesful signing for Utd), he'd just been the best player in the side that missed out on CL football thanks to food poisoning on the last day of the season and played at the WC for England. To dismiss him and at the same time rate Rodwell worth anywhere near £30 million is crazy in my opinion. Baines has a huge value, as he's been absolutely brilliant. Top clubs could well be interested in him and I bet they would be prepared to pay big money. The same goes for Fellaini. It doesn't for Rodwell.

Just realised this is my thriid post saying basically the same thing, but I just can't get my head around the fact people are so determined to put a high value on a player that has achieved so little and despite the hype surrounding his "potential" has not even shown anything to suggest he could be a special player. He's shown he has the potential to be a regular starter in a top half of the Prem team, though isn't there yet. He certainly hasn't shown anything to suggest he's going to be world class, which you'd have to, to command anything like a £30 million fee as 20. FFS, Wesley Sneijder was named European Midfielder of the Year and he only cost £12 million. The idea that Rodwell has such a high value is pure fan and media nonsense and no top club are going to be interested.

To be honest, that is based on games you have seen him in the senior side, where he has equiped himself well. Has anyone else seen him play against players in his own age group, he is by far head and shoulders the best player on the pitch and his talent is there shineing through - he looks like a Gerrard or a Lampard - but better.

I saw him play at 17 in the under 21 world cup, he was one of the best players in the torunament and that included, the likes of Ozil and much of the German team that got to the semi final of last years senior world cup. He is still developing and adjusting to playing the game with players ofter a decade his senior.

People really dont understand the talent we have on our hands here, personaly i wouldnt swap him for another player in the country.
