Would you see Rodwell go for 30m?

For 30 million a definate yes provideing moyes got the entire 30m to and not taking the wages in to account in that 30 million. However as others have said i belive this guy will go on to be a top class player

If he was worth 30m he would be the first name on the team sheet every week. Moyes dosent think he is.
If we could get that amount then take it. I dont actually believe he would go to City though, Just my opinion but I think he would go to MUFC.

dont know its a hard one like, he's got the potential to be one the the best
in his position in the world, and if he does get up to that then in a couiple of years
heel obviously be worth double, its like the rooney debate but the thing is we needed it then
the squad we had then compared to the one now is obviously a lot better, 30 m be nice like
get us a couple of players but then could regret it in a couple of years, id keep him myself,
im still conviced weel get taken over soon i dont know how many times a club like us have to finish in the top 6
with the players who can beat any side on its day.. but it has to be soon dosent it?

That's nonsense. His valuation is based on potential. Places in the team are based on present day attributes.

Let's be honest how have the sales of Rooney and lescott for the sums similar to the one mentioned for rodwell!

Think about, think of the players we brought in:

Beattie
Advm
Simon Davies
Billy
Heitinga
Distin

Granted u could argue that Neville and arteta were part of that in take, but I think it illustrates the point that sometimes o e in the hand is worth two in the bush.

Like I say at 18/19 he's hardly likely his value will depreciate and there is a reason clubs are willing to pay 30 mill for a teenager, think Rooney gone for 20 odd million and he's worth 4 times that now!

Tell Rodwell to play for them for 4 years then walk back to Everton on a free after letting his contract run out. That's what a real Evertonian would do!

This. Works for me.

I think if Everton are offered 30m, they should do it, provided (as has been mentioned) it can be used to bring in good players and not used to pay off debts or whatever. I think 30m would be the minimum, tho. Might should set the bar higher.

I'd push them further up to 35-40 because Rooney was a hot prospect, he went for 30and went on to be one of the best strikers in the Premiership... so I think if they really want him they would dig a bit deeper if asked to.

As much of a superstar as he may end up being, the idea of him being a 50-60m player in the new world of financial fair play seems a stretch. But even so, unless Rodwell requests a move, I'd like to keep him.

Sending him to Man City could be the kiss of death for him any way. He'd never recognize his potential there (might not even make the subs list every week, much less make the pitch).

I also think Neiler has a point that even if we were given a grand sum like 30-35m, we can't just automatically replace him with players at current "everton" prices. That 30m wouldn't go near as far as we would think today. Every team who may be willing to sell would know that instead of selling to the skint everton they are selling to a team that has 30m in their pocket. All prices automatically go up 40-100%. That is why Andy Carroll got such a lofty tag. It isn't that he was "valued" at 35m, it was that Liverpool had a huge hole and everyone knew they 50m to spend. Had they tried to land Carroll BEFORE selling Torres, they probably could have forced Newcastle's hand with a bid of 20m.

He will eventually be worth 50 - 60 mill i know that seems unrealistic now - but trust me - this lad is going to be one of the worlds best players.

I wouldnt sell unless he forced the issue himself - we all know how that goes.

he will never be worth that much while he is at everton. we haven't got the squad and don't play on the stage (i.e.Champ league) that will allow him to fulfill his potential fully. At 30m, I think he is overpriced...he shouldn't even consider going to city...i reckon only utd or arsenal, or maybe a foreign club could make him world class.

saying that, if city offer 30m, i'd say thanks very much

Agreed. Great points. There are a lot of threads about selling players and no matter how much people point out:

a) We probably won't get to spend 30 million on transfers. We'll probably get 15-20 (if we're lucky).
b) More transfers fail (to various degrees of failure -- Heitinga is better than Koldrup but since we broke our wage structure for Heits, he clearly wants to leave, and isn't guaranteed a starting spot, it can hardly be considered a success) than succeed.

The Lescott deal was forced and he wasn't going to improve so it's a different situation than Rodders but looking at what we got in return for Lescott how are people so excited about the idea of doing that again?

When you take one player and turn him into three it piles on wages which means after that transfer money is gone you're so stretched financially you can't even afford loans (example: us).

As I said in another thread, selling to buy doesn't work. Isn't the fact they have no money and have to sell to buy the reason we want this board gone? So why do we suddenly have all these threads where people suddenly think selling to buy is the answer? It hasn't worked for the last decade ... what's different now? Baffling.
