Would you see Rodwell go for 30m?

Agreed. Great points. There are a lot of threads about selling players and no matter how much people point out:

a) We probably won't get to spend 30 million on transfers. We'll probably get 15-20 (if we're lucky).
b) More transfers fail (to various degrees of failure -- Heitinga is better than Koldrup but since we broke our wage structure for Heits, he clearly wants to leave, and isn't guaranteed a starting spot, it can hardly be considered a success) than succeed.

The Lescott deal was forced and he wasn't going to improve so it's a different situation than Rodders but looking at what we got in return for Lescott how are people so excited about the idea of doing that again?

When you take one player and turn him into three it piles on wages which means after that transfer money is gone you're so stretched financially you can't even afford loans (example: us).

As I said in another thread, selling to buy doesn't work. Isn't the fact they have no money and have to sell to buy the reason we want this board gone? So why do we suddenly have all these threads where people suddenly think selling to buy is the answer? It hasn't worked for the last decade ... what's different now? Baffling.

No one wants to see it happen mate. But with our current board and the way the club is ran, we really do need to sell a player for big money to refresh the squad, boost it, and also balance the books.

The best hope would be a bidding war between Chelsea and City (if HE wanted to leave), i wouldn't sell, he is on a long term contract and still has had injuries, would love to see him get a proper run in the team without injuries, but in saying that if these 2 were interested, players plus cash could be an option, from chelsea Sturridge,Obi Michel (poor this season but could turn it around with a decent run) Kalou wants to leave end of season also. At City they have Onouha (we need R/B), Michael Johnson (very very injury prone but decent player when fit), Greg Cunningham promising defender plus 20M. all the players mentioned are more or less fringe players but would improve our squad and still have dollars for a striker and midfielder.

Sell him for 30...buy Scott Parker for 5m if W ham are relegated and want to sell him. Kenright can take his loan money back then should be easier to sell the club with 40% less debt.

Would prefer not to....would love to build with him over the next few seasons.... but obviously finances will be the reason he leaves if it is soon.

I'd push them further up to 35-40 because Rooney was a hot prospect, he went for 30and went on to be one of the best strikers in the Premiership... so I think if they really want him they would dig a bit deeper if asked to.

we got 23m for rooney with some add-ons if they won stuff

If we sell him, then we just prove to the world that we cannot compete in this league. Why would an ambitious club sell one of the brightest prospects in English football...AGAIN!?!?

Rooney got too big for the club & manager & selling was a win/win at the time. We got a bit more class with that cash & turned around our culture as well. We will have achieved nothing if we sell Rodwell, and be back in the same position we were when Rooney left.

Why people salivate over 30mill, when we could conceivably challenge for silverware (and other riches) with Rodwell is beyond me.

I wouldn't sell him for less than 30m straight cash all money up front none of the rooney type deal were i still think we were screwed over! I'd also put a 20% sell on clause!
