As usual the answer to this is somewhere in the middle. All the people saying no chance or dead right he would are wide of the mark in my opinion.

Could he play for a top 4 (for me it's a top anyway) side?. Absolutely. Would he be a nailed on starter?. No. But only the very best players are nailed on in those teams. Is he a good enough player to be included in the squads of any of the top 6. Yes, I don't think he would be out of place quality wise in one of those teams.

One thing that has surprised me in recent games is just how good a passer he is when he has quality players making runs around and ahead of him. I also think he'll see more of the ball with quality passing players behind him, as we've seen with recent addition of Gomes. I think Mina has this in his locker too and Keane too now he is getting some confidence back.

He is the type of player that will flourish in a top team provided he is played in his best position. In his current form, it would be difficult for any team, including a top 4 team, to drop him.

I'm not saying he's a better or worse player than any of the players mentioned before in this thread. He is his own player and as we introduce more quality around him he is becoming more important to us. I'm glad we have him, and I wasn't saying that at the start of the season.

This is a good point and I have noticed it too. Especially since the Fulham home game his through balls have been far more frequent, and it is great to have someone in the side that has the ability to play them.

Absolutely, a number 10 is only as good as the intelligence of movement ahead of them.

You could even see it with certain payers in awful sides like Jeffers and Gemmill. Jeffers' movement was actually pretty good, Gemmill used to thread him through quite often, Barmby too if I recall.

*shudders while looking back at the squad circa 1999*

Barkley is a completely different player, he is playing 90+ passes a game at 95% accuracy. That is what the top 6 want.

30 passes at 70% accuracy won't cut it.

He’s in a better team mate, did he have those figures here? No he didn’t . Put siggy in that team and he would have better numbers than he does here. The fact that siggy has created the second highest chances in the league , behind only Silva who is playing for the best team in the league , surely shows he has enough to compete for a place in a top 6 team.
