WORST REFEREEING DECISION

Lee Mason away at Stoke 2 seasons ago, foul 6 feet inside the box given 6 feet outside the box on the same side as the linesman.

In other games though, I think we're as likely to get dodgy calls in our favour as against us.

Agree with that as the current position, but a few years back no. We were reffed out of games, Matterazi had to leave England...sent off for intent when no contact was made, Elleray was just a [Poor language removed] to us, and McFadden straight red for abusive language (never seen that done to any player since).

Angered me the most? The one where the ****e got a penalty near the end (neville sent off i think) then we had a blatent penalty refused when carragher arms where all over lescott and pulled him to the ground and we got feck all. Clattenburg i think it was. To this day i hear is name and i fume

I wasn't bothered about the Neville pen, but the Hibbert one was a joke. Gerrard started that when he wrapped his arm around Hibbo as they ran into the penalty area. It just made it worse when Carragher had Lescott in a half nelson and Clattenberg ignored it.

I've never forgiven Clive Thomas, Collina, the idiot who disallowed Hutchinsons goal - forget his name but not the only time he gave the ****e everything, the Hanson handball, Atkinson who chose not to see Suarez doing what he does from 2 yards away, the joker who sent Tim Cahill off when that other cheat, Alonso, screwed up his face in fake agony even though he hadn't been touched, and all the ones I've missed that will come up later in this thread. And why wasn't it a penalty when that ****e defender grabbed Sharp by the arm in the LC Final at Wembley?

I can't remember to be honest but is that what actually happened or just how the story goes to make it look more like a conspiracy?

And if it is, why get one of the most well known and respected referees in the world to throw the game? Surely some bum ref from Albania would of been a less risky option.

And why would UEFA by that bothered by 5 rather than 4 English teams being in the Champions League, surely they bring in more omney to the competition that teams from most countries? Or is it cause all those foreingers hate us?

And why did he not disallow the goal at Goodison? Or our goal at Villareal? Instead dislallowing a goal which still wouldn't of put us through anyway. Why didn't he send any of our players off if they were that bothered?

Sure it could of been a huge conspiracy but i think that thats just an easier way of getting over the hurt of losing out on Champs league rather than simply a human being made a mistake.

I never thought that it was a conspiricy, or corrupt. I just thought it was a very bad, incompetent decision given the leniency shown with physical contact in the penalty area at set pieces in that era.

Nevin - FA Cup tie at Analfield - clear foul by Ablett. At least we won the (2nd) replay.

I remember a few years ago, away to Blackburn. The linesman had been dreadful all game and Arteta clearly wanted to knock him out at one point. Then Vaughan made a great run, got fouled, somehow passed the ball BACKWARDS to Johnson who ran past 3 defenders and scored. I was busy celebrating a wonder goal when the linesman raised his flag for offside. Not only was the ball played backwards but there were THREE defenders playing him onside.

That was the same season that Johnson was denied 10 clear penalties. Had we have got them and that goal we probably would have qualified for the champions league again. I genuinely believe that season destroyed Andy Johnson as a player. Was never the same after.

Yes, I remember that now. I'd forgotten that it was Vaughan's pass, but AJ was well onside.

Collina fetched back out of retirement to ref that game - imo the fact that the chosen ones had been let back into the competion illegaly was the factor as the Group TV rights money would have been split five ways instead of four ways - so one team had to not qualify for the group stages - even the draw we got the hardest team available - then how dare we nearly beat them!
the last 15 minutes of that tie there was only going to be one winner enter Mr Collina it was not just that decision he was against us all night - did he have lessons of Mark clattenburg???

Go on - when did we get a shocker in our favour? A real shocker where we "robbed" the oppos thanks to the ref. It'll have to be one that matters as well - not the 3rd goal in a 3-0 romp.

Against Bolton (i think) around 15 years ago when they scored a clear goal against us at their place which was nearly a foot over the line but wasn`t given. They were then relegated ahead of us on goal difference at the end of the season if i remember correctly

Comfortably the Don Hutchison/Sander Westerveld incident. Ref was biased all game, and he blew up when he saw the ball cross the line as he shat himself.

Clattenberg etc. doesn't even come close to that for me. Blatant cheating.

I think I listened to an interview a few months back where the ref admitted he got this one wrong. Anybody else hear the interview? On Talksport I think it was.

Oh god yeah. When Stevie Me Laa jumped a yard in the air and two footed Naysmith in the thigh with the ball about 10 yards away. Horrific tackle.

this was one of the most disgraceful things i have seen on a football pitch, and yet i never see any video of it. the ref didnt even give a foul, despite the yelp that could be heard from naysmith over 40,000 passionate fans in a heated derby. if gerrard was not english he would be hung out to dry with some of his horror tackles and dives, and yet instead he is glorified as one of england's finest ever midfielders. he is even captain atm despite the fact his legs have clearly gone. thank the lord i am welsh

ffs ab, why did you start this fume thread ha? i seriously get too depressed when i think of the amount of derbies i have had to whitness us getting cheated out of. makes the victories all the more sweeter, especially when a RS storms out of the pub 10 mins early shouting at you for "not shutting up", then throwing his beer mat at the screen ha. i've never hit anyone in my life but i seriously would lamp clattenburg, thought he was a decent ref before then.

by the way lids, watch out for the ref in the swansea sunderland game, premier league debut, had an absolute shocker. his assistants didn't help him either, gave a free kick right in front of the linesman against neil taylor who ended up with a broken ankle after cleanly winning a tackle, was an absolute shocker. mirallas will have a field day against wales' 2nd choice left back next week

it is a tough job, im sure they make it look harder than it actually is, but players do not help one bit. suarez' performance during the rodwell red card was disgraceful and there are many like him (although not as bad). sportsmanship is no longer existent in our beautiful sport sadly. however, refs can earn that respect by taking no liberties, i don't understand why when a player goes down and the ref plays on, the ref doesn't book them for diving. i only ever see a yellow when it is an attempt for a penalty, i would like to know why this is the case. it is a solution to cut down on cheating, but is never explored.
