Women footballers claims for “equal” pay... when they already get too much.

But you are bothered enough to keep making new accounts every time you get banned?

I have never been a member of this forum before I signed up last month. I keep telling you. If you genuinely have some issue with me, or who you think I am, DM me and we can discuss it.

I agree with the principle that the pay is unequal and shouldn't be. I think that appearance fees for national associatons should be equal (I think I read that for the England men at least they usually donate theirs to charity anyway). But bonuses, prize money etc (and indeed their club level wage) are all going to be ultimately pulled from the sponsorship/TV money pot and the fact is that's just not at the mens' level, so where does the money come from to make it equal? Government subsidies?

If anything the whole situation highlights how monstrously obscene the wealth is that's splashing around the mens' game now,

Probably fair. I'll withdraw the resentment part.

It's a touch touchy subject at the moment, when it shouldn't be.

Whilst the USWNT are campaigning for "equal" pay, it's nearly impossible to present facts or explain how they can improve without being accused of misogyny.

I can't see it ever getting the attendances etc the mens game in the UK gets though - but that's because of the level we're at now and over a hundred years of support.

That’s the crux of it.

Wild accusation there. What did you base that on?

It’s not a gender specific issue...if women were generating more I’d expect to see them earning more. It down to basic numbers.

The quality (or lack of in the case of women’s football) isn’t the issue, it’s how much money do they bring in to earn.

In terms of women’s sport, tennis is the optimum level. Steffi Graf is my favourite tennis player male or female. Unlike women’s football it’s not in its infancy..it’s a developed sport that is generally as big a draw as the men. Female tennis players have earned “equal” pay.

They actually get paid more per hour when you break it down, having to work 60% of the time/ sets that the men do to win a full sets match. That could also be argued as unfair when placed in just one specific context.

But like everything else in the world, men have the benefit of privelige.

Women’s football has only been allowed to exist for a fraction of the time men’s football has, because they’re women!

Girls weren’t allowed to play football at school when I was a kid and I’m under 40, so it’s no surprise the quality is not as high.

Overall, pay is linked to commercial revenues - fair enough.

The very biggest teams get disgusting amounts of money, and so the very best players earn disgusting sums also.

Hence the highest paid women footballers earning less in a year than plenty of average male players earn in a week of a month.

But that falls down at the international level in the USA, which is where the pay discussion is being had.

They men earn far more than the women at club level, I’m sure. They’re not arguing to change that.

But at international level;

1 team is garbage; the other is the best compared to their competition

1 team does nothing to promote the popularity of the game in their country through their abilities; the other just had a ticker tape parade through New York city

1 team is generally mocked by their country; the other inspires people and improves lives.

Now... do you still think the argument your making hold water.

You’re dead right with that, but why should the USWNT have to improve to earn equal pay vs the USMNT?

The men’s team are, and almost always have been, rubbish.

Why not make the argument that they should have to improve to earn the money they get?

Don't think he deserves that. It's a post with valid points.
Actually most of it is a cut-and-paste from an extreme right-wing US 'news' site (is it a link-dropping exercise?). And s/he does seem extremely het up about it. Almost to the point that I would suspect one of these odd misogynist 'incel' people....

It doesn't matter where it came from, if it's facts, it's facts.

When I said improve, I meant in terms of revenue in general as opposed to skill.

The women's league in US will grow, hopefully start filling stadiums if it's that popular, get big tv deals etc.

The demand on the men's international stage will always shadow the women's - even if they're rubbish, all they really need to do is play someone good like a Brazil and they'll have millions more watching.

I think the most ridiculous example of this in sport is tennis. How on earth can the women’s prize money at Wimbledon be the same as the mens? Equal pay they cry. But they only play 3 sets, so it’s not actually equal at all. Half the matches are over in the time most men’s matches have just completed one set ffs.

Obviously as it stands because of the physicality aspect women will never compete with men on the football field. So equal pay is highly unlikely.I do believe in equality so maybe women should pick their battles.Games that get a decent amount of media coverage, snooker, darts?

Mad how many people are angry about it and how many seem to genuinely believe sports stars get paid on some percentage of ticket sales.
Always support people demanding fair pay for fair work

Ah yes, forgot they were paid by the hour
