It's been the finalist if the other team are in the champions league for years now but there was a rumor they changed it back a few years back. Since then the losing finalists have been Cardiff (who lost out because portsmouth didn't qualify by the league), us (who had already qualified by finishing 5th) and Portsmouth (who were banned from playing in europe anyway).

So nobody really knows.

Villa were runners up in the carling cup last year and didnt enter europe.

Just have to say what a win, something i didnt think i would say after that 1st 20minutes when i thought it was turning into a bolton performance again and was thinking how long could we hold out before we would conceed, that 1st goal really did change the game for us-it felt like the 1st time we even got in their half with that beckford header, then we get 2 wonder strikes, the beckford/moyes thing was nothing just moyes wanting more from becks, wonder how long it will take for this non disagreement turning up in the papers that beckford wants out rubbish etc

So how when both the fa cup and carling winners were already in europe does 6th and 7th places earn a spot in europa.

5th place in the league, FA cup winners and Carling cup winers are Europe spots.

If the Carling cup winners have already qulaified the place goes not to the runners up but 6th place in the league.

If the FA cup winners have already qualified the spot goes to the runners up. However if they have already qualified the spot goes to 7th place in the league.

Like in previous years when the top 4 regularly got to the FA cup final.

I lived in Greece beards ago and used to buzz off EBEPTON in Greek (it's different in lower case like) then someone put it up here during a game and it made me laugh and cats adopted it, thus Ebepton were born.

Im finding all these Euro spots confusing if the FA Cup runner up gets to play in euro how come Portsmouth didnt play in Europe?

They weren't allowed as they were in bad debt and didn't apply for the license.

Unlucky Portsmouth, that's karma for your fans being bad sky sports camera hogging beauts. And that scruff who's got all the tattoos.

My belated match ratings, because I was bored:

T-How: 7 - Not too much to do, surprisingly, but he made 2 boss saves to keep it at 3-0 during a tricky period. The second was ridiculously ninja.

Hibbo: 6 - Jarvis had his card marked, but thankfully the England debutant didn't have his assisting boots on.

Jags: 8 - Proper boss. Made loads of last ditch tackles, and was generally Jags-ish. His deadpan post-match comment on Neville was boss, too: "... and then skip pops up with what we've become accustomed to; a piledriver from outside the box".

Distin: 7 - He let his man get the wrong side of him on one or two occasions, but was ultimately solid. And excellent in the air.

Baines: 7 - Underutilised, really. Good defensively though.

Gueye: 6 - He didn't look out of place, but didn't get many chances to shine. His 1 on 1 was a great opportunity, but I think his shot was on target and it was a good save, rather than him bottling it. I hope to see more of Gay Gay.

Neville: 7.5 - Poor in the first 20 minutes, but he scored a ridiculous goal and was really good defensively after that.

Heitinga: 6.5 - Decent.

Bilyaletdinov: 7 - Poor defensively. I'd argue he should have been the one behind the striker, though. Mental goal. I think he's scored about 2 goals inside the box for us, and about 7 from 30 yards out.

Osman: 7 - Another assist (or two?) and a generally bright game. He's got some skills, our Ossie.

Beckford: 8 + MOTM- They could not cope with his pace. And his goal -- with our first chance of the game -- was about as crucial as you could get. Before it we were against the ropes, but after it we were coasting. Silly spat with Ginge aside, he was ace.

Subs:

Anichebe: 4 - I can't believe I used to rate him. His good spell early last year was a misnomer. He is woeful. Woeful.

Apocalypse Vellios: 6 - Didn't have too many chances, but he looked eager and strong. And handsome.

Forshaw: N/A

But Poertsmouth would of got qualification as FA cup runners up if they weren't excluded due to their financial problems.

Hence the rs managed to get into Europe again without actually qualifying.

All the articles about that said "Portsmouth wouldn't be allowed to entre Europe if they win the cup" though. I'm still convinced runner ups don't get it any more.

Having said that, while I like to think of myself as a calm and even headed person, if our season ends with us having to cheer on fecking City in a cup final or we don't get into Europe, I'm going to go and break someone's goddamned leg.

They didnt apply to be in Europe. Then they did late on and it got knocked back

Both those articles say Portsmouth would of qualified as runners up.
