William Carvalho

I would be concerned if the reason we could possibly move for him is only because his club are wanting to sell.

Less of a target and more of just availability.

So we knocking him? Could be the first signing this summer but wrote off allready? Dont get it

Should people not give an opinion on him? Didn’t realise we should enthuse over every player we’re linked with just in case we do actually sign them.

They aren't wanting to sell. he wants out after been attacked by their fans.

He's a good player.

But he does have his limitations - lack of pace being a huge one. Excellent on the ball, though.

I would also question why no club better than us have ever moved for him.

Yeh, there's definitely a sense that he may have stayed in Portugal a bit too long.

I suppose it's a case of his role not really being crucial to those sides at the time, though, as well.

When he was 22/23, Arsenal were heavily linked, but Wenger - being Wenger - decided not to address the issue/spend £££ on a young player.

United went all out on Pogba, Chelsea bought Kante and City had that role filled. Spurs went for Wanyama (who is more dynamic and someone who I'd love us to go for if there's any chance of him leaving Spurs).

He's been linked with big moves to Italy but again, those clubs have had more pressing needs (Inter signed playmakers, Milan were crap etc).

There's an argument he's stagnated in the Portuguese league but his displays at international level have been consistently excellent. So, if he has stagnated due to not moving a bit earlier, he's stagnated at a high level.

He'd be an improvement on Schneiderlin for the midfield anchor role but if we're looking for a dynamic box-to-box player, it isn't him.

If played as the pivot alongside Gana and another box to box player I think that could work.

Gana - Carvalho - Gylfi is decent enough on paper.

However, I do feel Gana is too limited on the ball so we'd need to look to play Davies/Klaassen (a new signing if he goes) there in some games, to try and add a bit more attacking impetus.

Which, in fairness, is just fine and just how a balanced squad should be used.

Imo Carvalho is technically a much better footballer that wanyama.
Wanyama is s beast, but is nothing special, let’s be honest he can’t be up to much if Dier keeps him out of the spurs team.

Yeah that could work, I watched a video about Silva's tactics at Watford and Gylfi would operate like Cleverly in the 433 system, starting deep in the three then transitioning into a ten when we have the ball. But I do feel we actually need a new athletic box to box player aswell as Willy because that isn't a physical enough midfield and what we need is someone who can transition with the ball and take us up the park, someone who can get around the pitch. In theory it could be Davies/Gylfi but again you need options and different types put current midfield lacs physicality and pace hence teams like Arsenal just walk through us away from home. I suppose it depends how many we can shift if its one or two center mids we bring in this summer.

So lemme get this straight. We generally despise Schneiderlein because of his lack of effort but are willing to excuse someone jogging back even MORE lackadaisical because he "lacks pace"?

Couldn't we try, I dunno, "improve" our athleticism?

He's a very good player at a position we need, and he just turned 26 years old. He'd be a great addition.

That said, I feel like we've been linked to this guy for like 8 straight windows. I'll believe it when I see him with Contract Dave.
