Big Willy C dominating the midfield again, his presence is so calming, spreads the ball around like a modern isco
Playing football with the handbrake on.A midfield with him and Schneiderfraud in the middle would be the footballing equivalent of suicide.
If that's wisdom, Ashley Williams needs a paternity test from Einstein.Good to see Carvalho keeping his head down tonight, all the agro in this game, wise man avoiding the ball and the potential for a nasty tackle from an Iranian, also looks hot out there so not running around to much is wise
or Yaya ToureIf I didn’t know these comments were about Willy Carvalho I could be tricked into thinking they were about Matic....the fella who won a fair amount of silverware with Chelsea and Utd.....
Gareth BarryWatched him for the first time against Spain when concentrating solely on his performance, and was surprised how much of the game passed him by. I think he only touched it twice in the first 20 mins having spent the whole time jogging round a 30 yard space in front of the back 4.
Spain and their midfield is probably the worst team to judge him against as they would make most players look lethargic.
After the first 20 his contribution did improve somewhat. When out of possession he patrols space rather than players denying that space to the oppisitiion. His positioning and reading of the game more than make up for his lack of pace. He has the vision and passing ability to turn defence into attack very quickly and in other games I've seen him control games when Portugal dominate possession.
He is clearly a very good player, extremely experienced and would allow Silva to play different formations were we to buy him.
Having said that, I don't think I've ever seen a less "Everton" type footballer. His one paced style is almost comical at times and the Goodison crowd will absolutely slaughter him. He will become the bext Osman/Barkely/Williams rolled into 1.
Hd will improve the team performance I've no doubt, but large sections of our crowd wont see that. They"ll just see the perceived lack of effort, even when we're doing well.
I hope we dont buy him. I'd rather we bought a btb type midfielder anyhow but this guy will end up slaughtered almost to the extent of ridicule if he came hete.
