William Carvalho

Please don't tell me you're judging a signing based on that one video which has zero context?

Clearly, the video reaffirmed the point prior it - that he has a relaxed/languid playing style...

Although tactically and positionally astute, physically domineering and with wonderful distribution from his deep-lying position in midfield, his languid style, slow turning and absence of quick acceleration make him look sluggish and cumbersome at times.

At times against Italy, Carvalho looked lackadaisical in his movement and his languid playing style is a stark contrast to the speed of English football.

He almost has a Yaya Toure-type languid style

When the going gets tough, he'll be jumped on by Evertonians. Fellaini, Schneiderlin style.

Remember when Martinez first joined Everton?...

Some do it well.

Some go for Arouna Kone, Antolin Alcaraz, and Joel Robles.

It can indicate narrow vision.

I don't think it's a coincidence Silva's first player happens to be Portuguese.

I think Carvalho is a bit Sissoko and Evertonians won't take to a defensive midfielder with a languid style...

If Silva thinks we need better than Gueye (on the ball at least...), and as he's spoke about his number 6 being such an important position, then I think we need to do a bit better than Carvalho, there's a reason he's been coasting for years at Sporting and no top team took him. He's materialised as West Ham standard.

All that said, a good age - an international... not all bad, he'd do well for some teams clearly - I just don't think he'd be a good fit for Everton.

this video is 2 years old ffs, Can you confirm he currently still does that or are people just gonna keep lashing this up with the score not showing the time of the match not showing.

He's a very good player mate. Not world class but definitely somebody that would improve us.

I understand the concerns about his style but in the last year he's trimmed down and can get about. He isn't a box-to-box player though so it depends what role we'd want him for.

If it's a like-for-like (but an upgrade) on Schneiderlin, then it's fine. If we put him in with Gana then Gana can do the covering and Carvalho can be the playmaker from deep. He does have that in his locker - albeit he shouldn't be the one getting to the edge of the box and threading throughballs in behind the lines. He's the player that can act as the buffer for the whole team.

As I said last night, in Portugal's 4-3-3, he sat as the anchor point. As he moved, so did the entire attacking side of the team. The full-backs pushed up to level with where Carvalho was, and the cb's behind that, closing the space.

Yes, I know it's a YT vid.

But look at some of his driving runs on the ball. He's powerful and massive. He may not be the quickest over 10 yards, but once he gets going he's hard to stop. Plus, he has quick feet and a good eye for a pass, so he's not just some slab in the middle.

These are highlights from this season.

can pick out a pass and score goals, improvement over gana and schneiderlin already.

Does hat say more about us than him, mind?

Not on Schneiderlin as such, as he clearly just couldn't be arsed for about 5 months of last season.

On Fellaini, though, I never for one doubted his effort. You could just tell that's how he played.

Yeh, I saw that earlier

Highly doubting Silva would readily spill the beans on our first transfer deal of the summer

Dunno. He hardly said 'Yeah mate, signing him up on a 5 year deal so I don't have to play that French fraud, i'm not an idiot mate. HALA MADRID'

Just said 'Of course' according to him. Which could even be a little jokey thing.

Hope you're right mate!

Probably gone home on Holiday.
Nothing much seems to be happening until Marcel manages to shift the dead wood.

I've resisted my reluctance to view the mandatory You Tube snippets due to us getting our fingers burned on seemingly signing players just on the strength of them.
But this guy looks good.
