William Carvalho

I want us to sign him, but the fact that he’s been linked to the PL for the past 3 years and has never gone anywhere doesn’t fill me with hope.

Sounds good.

Won't Happen.

Ev that.
He'll end up at West Ham for a relatively modest transfer fee and be a revelation. We'll sign some bang average Premier League player for 40m and he'll prove to be a horrific signing.

Hope we miss out on this lad.

A tad concerned Silva is doing the new managerial thing of former players or same nationality.

Whys that a bad thing? All the best managers have done it

Not like Silva is the only person on the planet who rates him

Remember when Wenger first joined Arsenal?

Remember when Martinez first joined Everton?...

Some do it well.

Some go for Arouna Kone, Antolin Alcaraz, and Joel Robles.

It can indicate narrow vision.

I don't think it's a coincidence Silva's first player happens to be Portuguese.

I think Carvalho is a bit Sissoko and Evertonians won't take to a defensive midfielder with a languid style...

If Silva thinks we need better than Gueye (on the ball at least...), and as he's spoke about his number 6 being such an important position, then I think we need to do a bit better than Carvalho, there's a reason he's been coasting for years at Sporting and no top team took him. He's materialised as West Ham standard.

All that said, a good age - an international... not all bad, he'd do well for some teams clearly - I just don't think he'd be a good fit for Everton.

Just a reminder that our squad still has nearly half the England team that won the u20 world cup, assuming we retain Lookman, and several others who have been successful at U21 level. It is a young group that almost every club in Europe would envy, even if large chunks of our fanbase have decided that some or all of Holgate, Kenny, Connolly, Davies, Lookman, DCL are "crap".

In this country we struggle to consistently bring players on from that level to first team success, domestically and nationally. One of the many reasons is fan and coach impatience. Spain, France, Germany, Mexico, Portugal to name but a few at the world cup have many players in their squads who have come all the way through the ranks. Tat is seen as the norm in most of the world and that young core was definitely a huge attraction to Brands & Silva and they've both repeatedly mentioned the need to develop and use young players.

Obviously not everyone will make it with us but with stability, support and belief from the DoF and improved coaching from the manager and his staff they should all do better and offer more than they have under the last 12 months of chaos. Like it or not this has to be the heart of our strategy, now and into the future, to punch above our relative commercial/financial weight.

No doubt the "Davies is [Poor language removed]", "DCL is useless" shouts will continue but it is up to the players, coaches and football structure at the club to get the best out of what we have. If in a few years time we look back and have failed to develop anyone from that triumphant U20 team into a top quality PL player we will have no excuses.

that joao Mario looked good against us, would be nice to beat west ham to his signature as well.

Please don't tell me you're judging a signing based on that one video which has zero context?
