Why We Lost

As I have previously stated, when it comes to selfishness/greediness, Mirallas is top of the tree. Lukaku had a clear shot on and Mirallas (as usual) butchered it. Massively over rated player (imho)

Agreed.

I have always been a big Mirallas fan but his myopia is starting to annoy me now.

Point 1 I dont agree with - as in Barry, McCarthy, Barkley and Osman we have 4 first team midfielders and not 3. Not to mention Gibson who is injured. Also when you look at the likes of the RS, they have the same amount and often play with 3 central midfielders too.

As many have mentioned we lost this game due to not being clinical in front of goal. Barkleys chance at 1-1 is a sitter and a massive turning point. When 2-1 down we had alot of possession around their box, but nobody was having a shot, we was almost trying to walk it in like the 'old arsenal'.

4-1 was a flattering result, but ultimately we had no killer instinct and without that you cannot win the cup.

We lost because we lack the type of players the really top teams have, the ones that have the ability to slot under pressure when the guilt edged chances come along. These players cost more money than we can afford, hence we invariably fall short, despite bossing games for long periods. Until we have a board that provides the manager with a reasonable level of investment rather than "a few bob" the status quo will remain.

We're missing a match winner in our side. Take the game at spurs, we dominate the game but spurs win the game with a bit of magic

An example of this is Baines' crazy decision to put the ball out of play because Arteta took off his boot. The referee (no friend of Everton's) had waved play on, so Baines should have gone straight for Arsenal's goal and tried to put the ball in the net. What's the worst that could have happened? Arsenal couldn't have protested because the ref indicated that the game should continue. Can you imagine Alex Ferguson's Man United putting the ball out in that situation? Would Gerrard have meekly surrendered possession like that? The top players are winners.

As soon as that happened, I said to myself that we'd just lost the game. Within less than five minutes the uninjured Arteta was happily slotting penalty kicks.

Say what you want, and I agree with most of what you're saying, but we played well enough to win and I'm proud of them. We just couldn't execute our many scoring chances and it proved fatal.

The 4-1 score is obviously very deceiving. At least we didn't go MIA after Arsenal netted that early goal though.

We lack the cutting edge that can turn good possession into goals. They have a few who only needed a sniff of a chance and it is in. To beat that we needed 5/6 players having an 8/9 out of ten performance. Too many did ok but not near enough to their best. A bit jaded when they had the ball we stood off them a bit which is fatal. Game ran away from us in 3 quick moments. Should have attacked when snidely mikel was play acting, should have taken lead, gave away relatively soft and stupid penno which allows arsenal plan A to come to pass, team chasing game to be hit on counter. They practice that in their sleep and have players to execute it at pace.
We are not far off but we did not quite do ourselves justice on Saturday IMO.
Hurts like hell, because we have basically missed out on cup glory in those few moments but we will be back. Hope we finish on a high in the league. Still loads of footy left to play. Gutted for supporters though and a bit for Distin. That's probably his last chance.

Lack of quality in the final third. Created very little, and the few chances we did create we didn't take.

The most effective creative player on the field was Chamberlain, and best finisher was Giroud.

That's the difference.

Miralles holds on to the ball too long, and lacks awareness of those around him. Pienaar is too slow so won't hurt teams with pace, and he doesn't have a killer pass in his locker. Ross in the final third has lacked composure thus far (this hopefully will improve with age). Lukaku is hit and miss. Very raw and looks nowhere near a 20m player at this stage.

We didn't do enough to win. All of our forwards are too greedy. The goal bonus they get must be about 20grand

We lost because we are not good enough full stop. Same thing, year after year. We are the nearly men and 20 years without a trophy next year for a club like ours is a joke.
