Why We Lost

This.

Between the equaliser and the penalty we looked the team most likely to win.

I agree with this, i thought second half up in til they got the pen we were the better side and looking more likely to score, that pen hurt us then it's always going to be hard chasing the game.

It's got nothing to do with lack of players and the board.

It's very simple though:

- On the day Arsenal wanted it more than us.
- Our full backs were not as dominating as they can be.
- Crazy decision to play Joel when Jags was out. Howard's experience would have helped the defence when their normal leader was out.
- Pienaar slows our play down, he can't run anymore, constantly falls over, underhits his passes and makes silly free kicks because he is slow.
- Martinez not getting the subs on soon enough. They did not have enough time to change things. I for one would love for McGeady to get the nod ahead of Pienaar for the next game. He has not gotten a proper chance, yet some people are already writing him off.

When was this mate? I don't remember him missing an open goal at all. I remember him having 2 decent chances, and one of those wasn't easy.

Have I missed something or have you just sensationalised it a bit? Apologies obviously if I missed this open goal effort.

Apology accepted.

I am talking about the bigger picture, Tottenham, Chelsea for examples. its all easy to say 'well they have more expensive plays than us' but you keep doing that and you lose sight of what is actually wrong in the first place. Arsenal were better than us sure, i'll admit that. But would they have been as good over 90 minutes if we had changed our tactics at all? We had noone to do that with, but could arsenal have played with so much ease ala chelsea + city before them if we could do something idfferent on the pitch? Watch us after their second half goals, we proceeded to to the SAME thing after conceding and it didnt work. We are told to pass it so more than once in that game we are passing it outside the box without actually making a chance. Every counter slowed down to do the same thing and the one time someone decided not to do that we scored from it!

Personally i am not attacking Martinez in any way. time will tell if that is justified or not but i don't blame him for doing to same thing if he has no-one to change the team with. That is our biggest downfall, it is why so many teams play much better in the second half, we need to be devastatingly brilliant for 90 minutes or we lose points.

Essentially you're not talking about the bigger picture though.

You're talking about why we lost this one game.

And that was because they were better than us. Of course there's ifs and buts, hey they could be used in any game. Essentially Arsenal are a better team, and showed it.

What i mean is that we always lose this one game. I don't mean to single out Arsenal, only for that it was just played. It is the same every year for us now and the lack of players is becoming more and more apparent. As mentioned i am not critizising the manager becasue he hasn't got enough players to make changes. He left subs late but the ones he brought on could not have made the impact he needed so why change it? If your tactics arent working but you cant change them then no matter who you throw at the problem they will still have the end result minus a moment of magic/luck.

My whole argument is about losing our one game every year and why. In simple terms its money but would having a different option in midfield allow us to adapt our game depending on the opponents? A different striker? Without any of these options you are destined to repeat the same mistakes. The definition of insanity is........

Personally i think our squad is slowly getting smaller every year. without talking about exact numbers, we are reducing the amount of players in one position and increasing them in others, but never actually increasing the squad. This is clearly costing us every year because it doesn't kick in until we have that 'one game' at the arse end of the season and by then it is too late.

See we win on sat, you would fancy our chances on winning the cup. We win last year, you fancy your chances to at least reach the final. We win the year before and we reach another final. we beat Reading and our run is good for the final............the list goes on.

Except we always lose that one game. No matter what. That is not luck when it happens year on year.

I'm not beleiver in luck mate, so i'll agree there. Luck had nothing to do with anything.

Football games are won and lost by every team Chris. We got to the QF and we got beat. We got beat by Chelsea last week, Sunderland in Dec, Man City in Oct. football games are won and lost all the time. It's not because "we are Everton" that's what happens.

You ask why we lose that one game on the cup run? Nobody can answer that question mate, Man Utd got beat early in the comp, Spurs were put out early. Lpool were put out last round, it's what happens. Only one team in the country will be unbeaten in the FA Cup. I'm trying my best to understand what you mean and this is how it comes across.

And imagine you are a Citeh fan.

Trying to rationalise being beaten by Wigan two years on the trot after spending gazillions....

Such a strange phrase to use "we always lose this one game", only the cup winners don't say that.

You've been using Arsenal as an example of a club with more resources and players than we have, yet you've missed out the fact that for the last 9 years Arsenal have been losing the "one game" a year.

IMO we lost because our two front wide men were forced to play inside to help barry and McCarthy out when arenal were rampant in midfield - it left Baines and Coleman totally exposed at the back three of the goals came down baines side as he had no cover from the aging SP!
