Why can't we beat the ****e at Anfield?

I used the stats somebody else provided.

But how is going from 1970 any more relevant than going from 1984?

Each are looking at a specific timeline to make a point and excluding the data that contradicts it.

If it's fair to ignore our regular wins there in the 30s (and it is) to make a point about our relatively poor record there in modern times then it's equally fair to say in the 17 years prior to moyes appointment we won their 5 times and in the 11 since we won there no times.

Because you're ignoring a specific period of that 40 years for no apparent reason, you said we were awful but that's clearly not true. An 'awful' team doesn't finish top half of the table more often than not. We finished top 7 half of that period.

I used the stats somebody else provided. They have had a better team than us every single year with the exception of two since Moyes took over.

Wigan weren't a better team than Liverpool last year but they won at Anfield, same with Fulham, same with Villa this season. In Moyes' 11 years we should've won at least 2 or 3 of these Anfield derbys instead we've only won 4 home and away. Especially last year, they were there for the taking. Moyes has let us down massively against Liverpool.

That's the way football works unfortunately. Football does not work based on who has the better squad on paper, that's why we've only lost to City once in the last 10 games or something ridiculous.

I called the 70s team awful because if you're talking about great everton managers no one mentions lee or bingham, lets be honest. I'd be happy to class moyes alongside those as average managers who kept the ship steady but couldn't do more than that. He matches their records very well in terms of trophies and derby wins. A bit behind true greats like kendall and royle, but that's only to be expected.

Hence why a lot of the defence of Moyes on here about his record against the bigger sides being justified because of his budget, is rubbish.

Your team has to be good to finish four points behind the league winners. Come on.

I remember arguing about this with ghost at the time.

I said that they had a good first eleven but a poor squad and if gerrard and torres weren't on form they wouldn't finish higher than 5th. Sold alonso, finished 7th next year. Case rested.

It's not, as evidenced by the fact that pretty much every league in Europe is won by the teams who spend lots of money compared to their competitors.

Yes, but these teams aren't impossible to win at though. In his first season, Laudrup has won at Anfield, Stamford Bridge and the Emirates. Swansea had a much smaller budget than all of those clubs. If Laudrup can do this all in one year, why can't Moyes have done it once in 11 years.

Laudrup also lost consecutive games to Arsenal and Spurs at home. We didn't.

Agreed.

The core of their team was very good. Mascherano, Alonso and Gerrard was a brilliant midfield. Not "der best in der werld" like that lot would have you believe, but probably the best in the league at that point.

Their second choice striker was N'gog, though. That says it all.
