Whose fault - Howard, Osman -- or Martinez?

No one will come in for him.

He's basically on a 50 grand a week jolly for the next two years and then down for a testimonial.

Be shocked if he was on anything like that. Though the situation of a departing manager approving contracts was a bit bizzare.

Plus he'll give the testimonial dough to charity as they all do these days.

Poor Osman

Howard should know better than to pass the ball out to feet to a center midfielder

I mean whats Osman to do?

At times during his time here he has looked truly top class, at times truly woeful but that inconsistency has always been there and the main reason why he is not in double figures for caps as he is a lot better (on his day) than most of the midfielders that have been selected for the National side before him.

He made a bad mistake, along with Howard, yesterday. He is not useless but merely becoming more and more inconsistent. I am still very happy to have a player like him around the club, we surely all remember Villa Park this season.

Off the bench last 20 minutes and kept way up the field. I have no problem with that. Anything with more responsibility than that and he's an accident waiting to happen.

That's a low bar tbf.

If Osman does play he needs keeping well away from our own penalty area. The feller is a liability.

But thats the point dave...fuming about a player who actually does contribute when played up top is pointless and worse still complaining about Bobby picking him.

Ive shown he is the best alternative at the moment if barkley drops deep or if Martinez takes Barkley out for a game.

I trust Bobby to manage the squad and individual youth players like Barkley in the best way. He can pick what you and Butters think is the best team and we will still lose some games. We didnt lose because of the swap...we lost because of the one error which can happen anytime...altho i agree and have said since the start if the season Ossie shouldnt be in that area as his bigget flaw will be exposed.

Well, first, you can only *prove* that if he's the only one dropped in there in Barkley's absence. It's not like there's been a few others dropped in there to compare with, is there? Second, how can you prove he's effective when he is replacing Barkley? I can recall the Palace game just 4 weeks ago when he started in place of Barkley and stunk the place out so much he was replaced shortly after HT by Barkley.

Fiorentina at home & Spurs away (can't remember the year but we won 2-0) come to mind, straight away, where he was by far the best player on the pitch.

Larissa goal is still one of the best finishes I have seen and made a great move into, what is considered by most, as the best goal scored at Goodison they have seen.

When we had Pienaar, Arteta & Osman firing on all cylinders it was one of the most well oiled and best midfields in the country.

So snort it at it all you want, Osman has, in a good amount of his 300+ games, looked very good and, as mentioned, at times looked top class (by the way that does not mean world class or maybe even the next level).

Also, he is no goal machine by any stretch of the imagination but he has certainly scored some important goals for him so I will always have respect for him.

The other options are naismith or moving in pienaar or mirallas with naismith or gueye taking their place. Naismith has a worse first touch than lukaku, probably the worst in the squad apart from hibbo so for me is not a better option attackwise than osman in any of the front three positions. And Gueye..well no thanks.

A poor showing vs palace does not change the above.

Howard should not have played the pass in the first place whilst Osman was blind to the play. Maybe Osman called for the ball and if he did, he was wrong as well. If he didn't call for the ball then the blame rests on Howards shoulders. If he did call for the ball then both of them are at fault.

It was a silly but costly mistake and it'll hurt both players. Lets just move on!
