Whose fault - Howard, Osman -- or Martinez?

Osman moved at speed to just outside the 18 yard box from further up the pitch to receive the ball from Howard in order to take it out for him. If I was in Howard's position - rolling that ball out to teammates presenting themselves for it all day of late - I think I'd be forgiven for believing Osman knew wtf he himself had in mind racing to receive it from me in the first place. He had something in mind, but didn't have the composure to do it once he was under pressure.

It's daft blaming Howard.

So the lad made a bad mistake. Not the first player to do it is he? Osman has played an important part in the success we've had this season. I don't think he should be starting games but the stick he gets is a disgrace.

No, he isn't, you're right, but it's also not the first time he made a mistake.

People paying 40 quid a ticket and he gifts the opposition goals for a laugh.

I'm sure his 40k earned this week makes him feel better, mind.

'Important'?

Osman should never have been on the pitch.

Axis of Evil when he and hibbert were placed on the right flank by our tactical genius ex-manager...both good squad players but to choose them above barkley or coleman now is very odd behaviour.

A very bad mistake not fielding his strongest available side. I just hope he learns from this and doesn't underestimate QPR in the Cup.

Howard - whilst no one is infallible, Howard has had his fair share of slip-ups.

Osman - not surprised at all. Yards behind the game both mentally and physically. Should have been put out to pasture (with Hibbert) after their pathetic performances in the 2009 Cup Final.

Everyone calm down. Ossie ****ed it but first rule of goalkeeping distribution if it's a short ball is to give it out wide so they can see what's in front of them. Yes it was a bad mistake but the ball shouldn't have been played to him down the middle with his back to what's behind him for that exact reason. If it's on the flanks and something similar happened ( which it wouldn't because the player will naturally be facing forward) like it maybe gets intercepted then it wouldn't be nearly as costly.

Ossie made the mistake but the ball should never be played short there especially coz Howard can see ki is right behind him.

He had time to knock it left or right to either Jagielka or Distin straight from the Howard roll out. But he thinks he's Leon Iniesta and tries to turn away from the oncoming forward and...erm...forgets the ball.

I just hope 'The Osman Back Pass' doesn't become as famous a turning point as 'The Kevin Brock Back Pass' - in reverse and for all the wrong reasons.

We need to kill this setback stone dead tomorrow. Football players are superstitious fools and they'll let events like this linger if it isn't quickly dealt with.

First rule of goalkeeping distribution on a short ball, always out the wings FFS. I love Howard and osman so I don't want a scapegoat as such. It was completely **** from osman but that happens sometimes and if the balls in there wide position it's got a lot more chance of not being so costly. That's why they teach it that way when players are kids. Always always out wide so the player can turn and face. The fact that Howard can see ki is right behind him and ossie has his back to him is another reason why I blame Howard's distribution a lot more.

yes defo howards fault ,the pass was never on as the sunderland player was waiting for howard to give it to Osman. poor decision from our keeper.
