Both managers have had us in Europe, in finals, and in relegation scraps.

Only one has something tangible to show for it though, and no matter how you want to dress it up, football is about winning things.

Joe also isn't a dour, dour [Poor language removed].

People picking a manager who's won sweet FA over a cup winning manager. The fact AF even got to argue the point is sad!

Wake up you bad geoff's

Do one...
What's wrong with comparing the week in/week out games over a cup fluke?
Royle was great, the cup was great, the 6th place was great, but Moyes is consistently placing us in and around that league position.
Royles next season was awful and before you spout injuries at me.. We're comparing to Moyes here.. Remember our final without Jags, Arteta etc... Going to Europe and playing kids because we had no squad left?
4th>6th
Cup win>cup final

Therefore:
Moyes>Royle in the league
Royle>Moyes in the FA cup
People have their own opinions as to what's the best judgement/the main criteria on which to base a managers ability, calling people bad Geoff's and telling them to wake up on a forum because you choose a different opiinon is at best arrogant, short sightened and blinkered.

Moyes had a lot longer to get that 4th, though.

If we compare moyes first two years with royle's two years, royle did better in both the cup and the league.

indeed, after all the thread asks 'who is your favourite' and not 'who is the best'. Joe Royle is my favourite but I understand there is an argument that he's not the best.

Moyes is not one of us. He's an outsider and always will be.

Royle by a country mile on that list...though obviously HK if it's all-time manager.

Big Joe was a warm character and a real Blue, but a bit of a journeyman manager if we're being real about it. Moyes is along way ahead of him when it comes to managing a football team IMHO.
That said, Joe should never have left us the way he did - could have sent us over the edge. If it was just over a failure to sign a player then it seems like a total over-reaction on his part. Does anyone know what really happened such that Joe felt he had to leave?

Agree though that Joe had some style and passion about him that Moyes lacks. He was a natural for us in that respect - had he stayed I think we would have stabilised but couldn't see Joe ever turning us into a strong side tbh.

Catterick? 2 titles and 1 FA Cup each. In Kendall's favour he has a Cup Winners Cup aswell, but could you argue that is cancelled out by signing the likes of Mitch Ward, Claus Thomsen and Tony Thomas in his 3rd spell?

didn't he leave over not being allowed to sign Tore Andre Flo for about 300k? If I remember rightly Kendall left after his 2nd spell as the board wouldn't let him sign Dion Dublin

This is how deeply the Moyes/Kenwright bubble of bullshiit has permeated the Everton Pysche. There was no fluke at all in winning that cup. They've made it so an Everton trophy could only be the result of a fluke. Bollocks

We took on the best team in the country and beat them on the biggest stage, then we repeated it a few months later.

Why??? Because the man in charge knew that EFC shouldn't ever lie down for anyone.

Thats why people picking Moyes over him are bad Geoffs.

Spot on this.

The attitude from Moyes has filtered down now, into too many fans. Its almost the norm now, to have such a negative (Wigan / Fulham / Bolton / Stoke type) attitude.

If Moyes stays, he could well keep us 6th - 8th EVERY season, and a decent pat on the back for that, will be his 70k a week.

But what really is the difference between 6th and 10th THIS season, is it not just midtable ??
!!
I would rather win the cup and finish 10th / 11th.

Moyes is just dour, misserable and has been great at creating a new meaning to the term 'Succsessfull Everton'.

Moyes had done a good job in awkward circumstances. League wise we've done well. Football wise we've been okay overall. He's won nothing though.

That should always be the benchmark of success. The fact that Joe delivered a lot more than just a trophy and was 'one of us' should count for a lot more.
