It was sad the way the 96/97 season ended up.From what i remember we got off to a good start but we then went on a bad run after christmas.Kanchelskis leaving was the end for Joe Royle and didn't Hinchcliffe get injured as well that season?

David moyes for me....

Yes big joe won us a cup which was a great day but we were still a crap side, and regognised as perianal relegation fodder. (Which I'm not blaming joe for)

David moyes although not winning anything has turned us into a consistant top end of the table side. We're now respected and appreciated as a top side, ignoring the plucky EFC crap which tbf is more based on finance than quality! He's brought us the likes of arteta Cahill jags baines Donovan lescott Fellaini mirallas ect ect...top players and the current first 11 is the best Iv seen since the 80's.

I went through the ninety's...it was horrible being an everton fan. Moyes made me proud of being a evertonian again!
10 more yrs please davie boy!

Relegation fodder??? Didn't we finish 6th after winning the FA Cup?

Your blind love of the ginger one is getting in the way of the fachts!

Yep, and the main reason I believe was that we were after Tor Andre Flo and the money wasn't made available to him and left on that principle (or something to this effect anyway). Royle was starting to turn us around.

For all Kenwrights faults he has been a better chairman for Everton than Peter Johnston.

Royle was in charge for parts of three seasons. We spent two of them stuck deep into the bottom half and finished both in the bottom 6.

In royle's only full season we finished 6th.

Like most things it depends how your phrase it. The truth is somewhere between the two.

For sure. I like to think if he'd stayed he'd have produced the same stability that Moyes has.

Which is a point in itself, Moyes is a victim of his own success at times, we've so used to finishing top 7 that we now demand more (and rightly so, you should always be trying to improve yourself as a team). All the numbers suggest that in general we're punching above our weight, so I appreciate Moyes for what he's done and always will.

But Joe had that passion about him. So did Moyes at the beginning, I miss that version of the ginger one.

TThe way the Joe Royle era ended was very sad if he was properly backed by the board then things could have been different.

I went for Moyes as Joe Royle left us in the lurch. Moyes has been denied transfers too, but he hasn't resigned because of it.

Still, it's time for a new manager anyway. Good luck to Moyes in the Bundesliga next season!

There was demonstrations and protests after nearly every game at Goodison against Johnston towards the end of his reign.Selling Big Dunc behind Walter Smiths back was unforgivable.

Kenwright bringing him back nearly washed up for a PR stunt was probably just as bad like.

Royle was starting to turn us around.

He wasn't really though. We'd picked up a whopping 9 points in Royle's last 14 league games.

To be fair Moyes had a much worse second full season only he was giving time to turn it around and royle, despite his vastly superior first two seasons was forced out by johnson.
