What Carlo needs to change

some fans reaction to ever loss worries me. I think they could turn on Don Carlo very quick if he doesn't perform a miracle and get a tune out of the current squad

The squads a mess due to the turn over of managers and various different styles of play that each has tried. Its going to take time to fix this so got to look at the squad in a number of groups and see how it can be developed over time.

Long term (players to keep)
Richalison, Gomes, Digne

Players that can still develop
DCL, Kean, Gbam? Kenny? Mina

Squad players Medium term future and need replacing with better quality
Coleman, Holgate, Davis, Iwobi, delph and Bernard

Squad Players Short term future and need shipping out ASAP
Sigy, Schnederlin, Keane, Tosun

Players that have no future at all and need to go now
Sandro, mirallas, niasse, besic and bolasie

its going to take a bit of time to sort this mess out.

The obvious problem from the weekend was the none existent centre midfield. neither of them protected the defence or got in to space to other themselves to receive passes from our defenders and left them under constant pressure. not many of the players performed but centre mid is the engine of the team that links up the play and when they went missing for the second half it prevented anyone else being able to perform unfortunately we don't have anyone else to come In so are immediate signings for this window should be 1 or 2 centre midfield players. maybe 1 permanent and one loan and then see how things look in the summer with gomes and Gbam back in contention.
Totally agree, except I don't see pickford on the "needs to be shipped out" list!!

I think that he should insist upon signing a centre-half this month, and then move Holgate into midfield for the rest of the season.

I like the lad a lot, and while I don't believe that he's strong enough to play in the centre of defence or dynamic enough at right-back, he's shown a lot of promise in his cameos playing further forward. Hopefully, he'll do well enough to become a long-term option there.

It's also time for a couple of academy graduates to be given a chance ahead of those who need to be forced out (Schneiderlin, Sigurdsson, Walcott, Keane, etc.), assuming that there won't be much of appetite to get deals done at Brands's end.

Let's look at some of our playing squad investments from the last few years:

Oumar Niasse - 16.11m
Snides - 20.7m
Bolassie - 26.01m
Siggy - 44.46m
Keane - 25.65m
Pickford - 25.65m
Klaasen - 24.3m
Walcott - 22.25m
Tosun - 20.25
Richy - 35.28
Mina - 27.23
Digne - 18.8m
Iwobi - 27.36m
Moise - 24.75m
Gomes - 22.5m
Gbamin - 22.5m

In answer to the op's question, Carlo needs better value players that make a real difference to the quality of his squad. The above list is a shocking indictment of poor player trading from the past few seasons with terrible resale values. Only a few can be described as value for money.

It's the Everton way.

Scary figures for some people who could hardly be described as footballers.

Went from the buy low, sell high philosophy of the Moyes years to a buy high, sell low philosophy now! (If we can even sell on our overpaid duffers that is)

It's going to be a really difficult job for Carlo and Brands. Nobody is going to sell right now in the middle of the season so there are going to be slim pickings. I don't think we can expect too much. I'd be happy for just a centre mid, because Schneids and Siggs have to move on, and honestly speaking I think its hard to depend on Gomes to make a full recovery next season. I think he's just going to be a bit nervous seeing as its such a serious break.

During the summer, we're going to have to get new replacements in every position, there's nobody challenging others at any of the positions.

he needs to change a lot of things...but Rome was not built in a day, and neither will Carlo's rebuild.
Everton has taught me to be a patient, unvolatile supporter...largely because I no longer watch them.
But I support them still, and wish Carlo well in the very large project he has in front of him.

I look forward to watching our brave lion hearts again, and hope by the time this 20s decade concludes, I can again enjoy that.

How many new faces do we need to see at the end of this transfer window to signify change? At this point do you prefer quality over more wholesale change?
