If you ever want to ask if we ever see this bad, we booed our team off at half time in a cup semi final.

We lost 4-0 to Liverpool twice under Martinez and even a result that got Rodgers sacked kept him here.

I noticed a poster on here referring to the semi finals as big games he got us to but what is the point in getting there if you have already lost? Against city all we had to do was not concede 3 goals, against United we were the better team (when the players ignored the manager) and yet still conceded.

Even Martinez second season we were awful. But we were awful at times under moyes, awful under smith, it goes on until colin Harvey pretty much.

But we will keep being awful until the ambition is matched. Hiring relegated managers, relegation battle managers, championship managers etc, they aren't winners, they are just small time. Even Roberto cup win compared to not being able to win enough games to just stay up makes it redundant for a club eith ambition far beyond just a cup win

72 points in one season.....21 wins out of 38 games. 61 goals for, 39 against.

That sounds like science fiction now. But it was 5 years ago.

We now stand at a point where figures like that are in all likelihood gone for a generation. We didn't realise it at the time, but that was our high point in terms of performance since the late 1980s and we'll likely not see that again in the next decade.

That's the standard all who take up the managerial position and the players they hire are set.

Under Bobby, we were permanently in a phenomenal moment of our football, prepared to go eye to eye with anybody. All our players were the greatest in English football. We were crap ...and the lads downed tools (chicken/egg)
But, ok, then Fatty Ron and Gormless Walsh came aboard. We were crap... and the lads downed tools (chicken/egg)
Then Fat Sam paraded his useless antediluvian tactics. We were crap... and the lads downed tools (chicken/egg)

In summary: three crap managers and a bunch of overpaid, gutless mercenaries have represented Everton the past 5 years.

NSNO.

This is one of the points I made too and @davek refuses to acknowledge it where Martinez is concerned.

A good manager is able to cope with the demands of the Cup competitions as well as the League. The League is the most important one, but I will accept that given how long we have gone without a trophy, i'd take a poor season in the league, say finishing 11th, if it meant we ended our trophy drought and enjoyed some success.

But Martinez couldn't do that here. He may have got us to Semi Finals, but we lost them and were poor in the league. As I mentioned, Moyes was able to get us 5th in 2 consecutive seasons where in 07-08 he got us 5th, to the last 16 of the UEFA Cup, and the Semi Final of the League Cup, and the following season in 08-09, he got us 5th and to the FA Cup Final. That isn't 'success' for Everton FC but at least it shows an ability to manage the team towards trying to win a trophy whilst sticking to the task in the League.

Martinez achieved something 'phenomenal' at Wigan, winning the FA Cup, but his club paid the ultimate price as Martinez neglected the League results and they went down. Under no circumstances would I accept our manager winning a Cup but sending us down in the process.

Yeah too much modern thinking here, the question was "ever" - so in the early 50s when we were relegated, yes we must have been relatively worse. Under Billy Bingham, Gordon Lee, Mike Walker, Walter Smith - we were definitely worse. Under Moyes at times, under Martinez at times under Koeman at times - we were worse. Even under Kendall (II and III), there were times when we stank the place out. However under all of those managers and no matter how bad we were, there was some sort of team spirit and mostly you could hardly fault the effort of players.

Of late, the passive nature of our team is such that there is no team spirit evident, there is no commitment to the shirt/badge/club and we are on a treadmill of mediocrity. None of the players we signed have been mediocre for the clubs they came from - so the problem lies elsewhere.

Allardyce is an abomination on our club and should never have been appointed - but my views on that sack of **** are well known. He has come in to achieve survival, let's be honest we were never going to be relegated. The club had a panic and we have created our own monster. Sooner he is gone, the better.

Let's move on.

Ahh I remember that game well.

It was the all out defence from west Brom and our changing nothing in how we attack them that led to that result. Think del came on and ran at their full back in the same way over and over getting tackled the same way.

This was another example of how bad Martinez was because we dominated this game but he didn't change anything, didn't change the approach or anything.

It was the epitome of Bobby's Everton. Incapable of adapting in the hope of it working eventually. I was in the "give him one more season" camp until that match.

If Martinez spent the fortune Koeman and Sam have spent on players I think we'd have a quality team.

Hindsight though ay.

Just get Fonseca in and give him all the moolah.

Need a clear out too first.
Martinez couldn’t organise a defence with Coleman , Baines ( in his prime ) and a young JOHN Stones plus Jagelkia.
The man was a delusional fool
He was found out at Wigan , at Everton , at the Euros with Belgium and he will be found out at the WC
