...looks like we weren't skint after all and were able to break our transfer record in bringing in Fellani.

Anyone wanna attempt to spin this in a negative fashion? How about "we really don't have any money yadda yadda yadda..."

Let me give you a piece of advice and tell you not to bother. You'll save yourself the embarassment.

I couldn't be bothered to go through and multiquote everyone who was just absolutely adamant we didn't have any funds in this window. You know who you are and suffice it to say, you were dead wrong on this.

...but you had fun moaning about it didn't you?

:@:@

TX, mate...errr, I think we're just skint now..

We could very well be Sotnas.

Time will tell.

But at least they put the sale proceeds to good work by snapping up Fellaini.

Besides, Moutinho would only cost 4.7M more...

But hey, Fellaini is a player I mentioned as being interesting for us even before the rumours. I can live with him (not so sure about his price, but I'm a tough crowd).

I've got to be honest, Fellaini is probably a far better fit for us at the moment than Moutinho (as spunky as that would have been). He brings height, a proper box-to-box engine but with defensive discipline, and the prospect of a DM on the park who can [Poor language removed] pass! The Carsley Replacement we were all after plus a whole lot more.

Personally, am stoked.

However, I can see why people are disappointed. I'm actually quite surprised nobody has bumped any of the threads from back in May. Back then the big question was would we be spending £20M or £30M (nett), see for yourselves:

http://www.grandoldteam.com/forum/everton-forum/6984-20-million-spend-moyes-sign.html

for example Tx :P
If it includes the 5M we got for Faddy, then I might be a bit disappointed but 20M is 20M, no matter how you slice it.

I'll just say one thing:

Look at Moyes record in the transfer market to date and then tell me you're worried about how it's going to turn out.

I for one am not, regardless if it's 20M, 25M, 30M, etc....

IMWT.

So people being underwhelmed when we scrape above the £5M mark with seconds to go, having had to play kids and dropped 6 points from our opening 3 games is, perhaps, understandable.

As for lacking faith in pulling off an 11th hour signing:
Bearing in mind the haphazard way in which our failed transfer dealings were handled throughout the summer:
Love: Led up the garden path by intermediaries, ending up trying to loan a player who was up for sale for cash.
Moutinho: Sporting came right out with the price of £20M and said they wouldn't budge, and guess what? they didn't, in spite of us offering £3M /year for 4 years, Chico's Razzle back-catalogue and a bag of Flumps.
Tiago: Pursuing a player who swore blind he'd never play in the Prem again, who had recently turned down a more lucrative opportunity to do so (with the Barcodes), and who was so upset by the prospect he locked his own chairman in the training ground bogs:lol:

Never mind " I wanna play for the [Poor language removed] " Riera etc.

So perhaps a slight lack of faith shown by certain individuals (including myself to be brutally honest) was understandable.

So, by all means feel vindicated, but bear in mind, the views that are now being held up for so much derision weren't really that unreasonable.

as stated by modfather, the 15 mill came from the sale of johnson and also from the money generated from the mcfadden sale plus the rooney payments. in essence there was no new cash injected into the team. cant see how that would make you happy.

if we sold the yak for 10 and arteta for 8 in jan, would you be happy if we bought a 20 mill player in the summer? hypothetical but basically whats just happened this time around !

Very nice Gordon.

I especially love the part where I said "Look at Moyes record in the transfer market...."

The jury's out on how this one will turn out but I'll go out on a limb here and say it turned out much better than it was looking just a week ago.

I think most people on here were throwing the 20M number around and that's why I quoted that number and higher. In fact, probably from that same thread.

We made a profit 0.25m, i feel ashamed thinking we didnt have money Billy!:lol:

(too blair)

a smidge unfair to compare certain views and broken records (vinyl, not the bolt kind) to certain other views. it appears to me that certain overly negative and overly repeated opinions eventually rubbed a few people up the wrong way.

The point of this thread was that as of a week or two ago, there were certain sections of the support that just knew that they were right when they said that Moyes wasn't gonna spend any money in the transfer market. Period.

If you go back and re-read the posts on here, we all know that Fellaini was basically financed by selling AJ and Faddy. No doubting that.

But it still doesn't take away from the fact that everyone knew that money was there and yet people were absolutely sure we weren't going to spend it.

In fact, it was one of the sticks being used to beat Kenwright with.

Wrongly so I might add.

I think we'd all like additional investment in players above and beyond using the funds we received from selling players. That said, things turned out one heck of a lot better than what some were prognosticating on about to the point of it being tiresome.

Go back and read the thread again and then see in the very first post where I said that there won't be anyway to spin this by the naysayers.

They were wrong pure and simple. No other way around it.

Football business is about buying and selling players. If we sold AJ to sign other players, I don't see how it makes us skint. Gates won't buy you any player.

At some point I thought we were skint because I thought AJ's money was being used to pay for the Yak. Maybe we're skint right now just because we bought someone in.

More important than his height or strength, he was the one we could afford. And that just makes him a better fit.

Blair really the only player we know we went in for was Mouthino the rest could have been jsut media hype that created this monster.

Speaking of the media, let's see how that turned out shall we?

Lars Jacobson

Number of media outlets correctly linking us to him? Zero.

Segundo Castillo

Number of media outlets correctly linking us to him? Zero.

Louis Saha

Number of media outlets correctly linking us to him? Zero.

Mauraoune Fellani

Number of media outlets correctly linking us to him? Zero.

Damn fine reporting if I do say so myself. :dodgy:

I'm not so sure that is true. I'm still under the impression that the Johnson money and McFadden money remains in Moyes' hands for January. I honestly believe that the Fellaini deal was finaced by other means; that is, it came from the original budget that Bill handed Moyes.

I could be wrong. :o
