Waste of a place

This.

Pienaar is not as good as he once was but he´s consistently one of our most important players. If you react to him losing possession once in a while it´s because he´s become a victim of his own high standards.

He´s not a goal scorer, but he never has been so it could hardly have come as a surprise for you he´s not banging them in this season.

From his position on the pitch he should chip in a few more goals. He's had the chances and ballooned them.

People need to stop ragging on Mirallas. He misses Fellaini being played far up the pitch. When Fellaini was playing there he was an absolute handful for defenders which created space out wide for Mirallas and Pienarr to drift into. Now that Jelavic and Konehead are playing there defenders are less preoccupied in the middle of the park and can close down Mirallas and Peinaar much more easily. I don't think it is any coincidence that they are looking less effective when he was moved deeper and more than Jelavic stopped scoring the second Cahill was out of the door.
Hopefully this is a problem that Lukaku can fix as he is every bit the handful for defenders that Fellaini was.

I think Pienaar's started fine, he's one of our most creative players and it shows. Just don't think he should play left-wing as often any more.

I'd like to see him get some game time as a CAM (Or ACM for you FM guys...), obviously that's Barkley's place now but atm Barkley typically drives at defenders and takes a few touches too many, in time he'll learn to thread a through ball or look for runners out wide, so I'm not bashing young Ross. He's been brilliant thus far but some of his decision making have highlighted his inexperience. Whereas Pienaar can usually see those passes.

Or if we had a midfield 3, say in a 4-3-3 or 5-3-2, I'd like to see Pienaar as a left sided centre-mid.

Anyway, Mirallas is due a good game and hopefully we'll see more of Deulofeu.

He’s always lost possession at crucial times. He would often slow play it in the left corner, waiting for Baines, and with the rest of the side trying to get in the box he’d give it away sloppily and we’d see the team racing to get back in position.

The times Pienaar has played well are when he’s been looking for a new contract.

Also the myth about him and Baines is purely a myth. Baines plays well with everyone. Baines and Mirallas last season were causing murder down the left hand side. Like in the derby game until they took out Mirallas.

IMO I feel that Mirallas is suffering from second season syndrome a little. He was flying pre-season against new teams, but the sides in the Premiership know he’s our danger man and making sure that they don’t give him any room to do anything. It’s a learning curve for him to overcome that and push on, but I think to help with that and to help the team, Martinez could do worse than dropping Pienaar, moving Mirallas to the left and putting Deulofeu on the right. It suddenly gives us a more unknown quality in attack for the opposition to contend with and would give Mirallas a slightly different outlook on the left. Cut in and shoot which we know he’s good at, or if the defender covers that, have Baines on the over-lap. Pienaar only really gives us the one option, hold the ball and wait for Baines.

Both of those point are inaccurate & unfair.

On current form and known ability, it's only Osman, for me, that needs a stint on the bench.

He has been very poor recently.

I have previously given him the benefit of the doubt, as sometimes he's playing deeper than he should, but he's a pro, he should be able to fill the void left when the other CM's go galavanting up top.

A thread to explicitly lay into players? I've seen it all now.

Overreacting much?

Just my own personal opinion that Pienaar is out of form and his place would be better occupied by someone else.

Don't worry, after my -8000 rep i'll stick to lurking.

Sorry again for posting an opinion that doesn't match your own.

So you don't think Pienaar's best form are when he was first on loan looking for a permanent deal, when he wanted the bigger contract and we sold him to Spurs or when he came back on loan and wanted the permanent deal?

Also the thing about Baines is true. Baines doesn't need Pienaar to play well, but it would appear that Pienaar does need Baines.

Pienaar is comfortable on the left with Baines. The thing he needs to keep doing is keep getting on the scoresheet. As Baines said quite a few months ago, Pienaar had added goals to his game. He needs to keep this up. He's a great little player.

Pienaar's best form was the 2009/10 season, without a shadow of a doubt.

We're 3 games into a season and have a thread asking who we think is rubbish and a 'waste of a place'. Is it too much to get behind the team and the new manager? It's sure to take a bit of time for his ideas to gel. Couple that with some on here calling some of our new signings rubbish without them even playing and it seems patience is a quality in short supply.
